649156 2008-03-13 22:59:00 Spoofed address? Or have you had dealings with them in the past? johcar (6283)
649157 2008-03-13 23:21:00 Despite what some on this forum have said to the contrary, I still believe that most people are too free with their email address. People seem to give it out all over the place to all and sundry. Can't understand the logic!:groan:

If you are that free with your details what else do you expect?:groan:

Do you really love making sure everyone knows your point of view on every subject out there?

Spam, as we have seen from your earlier thread on it, you know absolutely nothing about.

Not everyone can do what you've suggested. Sometimes it's vital to our income to have our email address easily accessible.

Now how about you stop giving 'advice' on things you know nothing about!

I know of a few forums where you'd be likely to get warned then banned for making useless comments like that, as you continue to do.

649159 2008-03-13 23:29:00 That's a housing estate company ... hehe .. I have dislike sales people of all kinds. Funny, the past month or so we have been getting weekly Harcourts mail magazines in our letter box. Nomad (952)

Spam, as we have seen from your earlier thread on it, you know absolutely nothing about .

Your opinion . And yes, I do want all to know my point of view on anything and everything . I will give out my advice based on my personal experience . You will not tell me what I can and can't say . If you want that sort of power I suggest that you join the moderators - if they would have you .

I am assuming from what you have said that you are an expert on spam . That expertise, I would have thought, would extend to what can be done about it . Not control it but eradicate it, at least from personal email . So if you don't believe that I have an answer, let's hear your solution .

I do not receive spam . I would like to help others that do and I don't care if you believe that or not .

I have told you of my experience and my solution that has worked for me . It has been a very positive experience and I like to share positive experiences with others so they to can benefit . I don't give a stuff if you find that objectional!

Yes, I can understand that your address must be accessible, but it is not compulsory to hand out your address to people that you know will send you spam . So why the hell do you do it? Peculiar . :horrified

As you say, I don't know too much about spam - these days - as I no longer receive spam . :clap Have not received any for over 14 months . have you?:)

649161 2008-03-14 01:49:00 I get ****loads of it - and it all ends up in the junk email without me having to lift a finger. My penis should be several KM long by now if I followed up on all of them.

Because of my job - my email address(es) are not a rare, sought after commodity.

You seem to have ignored what I said - about having your email address easily accessible to potential customers. For you, sure it may work fine to not give people your address, and not post it online anywhere.

But for others of us, life don't work that way.

Your comment hardly helped the OP, mine didn't either in this case, so here we go...

I haven't received any spam from that address, but my parents did find they were getting spam from a similar address a while ago. Since they changed providers (to Orcon) they haven't received a single spam message.

I don't profess to be an expert on spam, but I know a hell of a lot more about it that you seem to.

I will now stop, I don't go out of my way to offend or annoy people, unlike some others here.

:sleep

PS: How difficult is it to get a quote right? You seem to have problems with that. You need [/QUOTE] at the end...

649163 2008-03-14 02:20:00 Still OT and @ Roscoe: You don't need to 'hand out' your email address to a spammer . Many of them have scripting engines that generate email addresses based on an algorithm . Pretty easy to 'guess' a valid email address when you're generating millions of them at a time .

If you haven't had spam, good on you, your ISP must have a good filter and/or you must use a fairly random combination of characters for the name part of your email address (the bit to the left of the @) . I do recall your thread from a couple of months ago, but since I fall into wratterus's category of needing to have a presence in cyberspace, I didn't pay too much attention to the detail (but I recall I did put in my :2cents: ) .

I just deal with the spam I receive (not much these days - ISP filters have improved a lot in the last 12 months or so) by using the trusty <DELETE> button and get on with life .
