793800 2009-07-21 22:12:00 I am wondering if BSODs are caused by hardware problems, or software. Recently I have been getting a BSOD every time I put my machine to sleep. The screen goes into standby, then comes back on. I'll try and post an error log later. sammo450 (13626)
793801 2009-07-21 22:16:00 They can be caused by either hardware or software. stormdragon (6013)
793802 2009-07-21 23:33:00 is it true that it is more commonly hardware related? Nictech (14748)
793803 2009-07-22 01:20:00 BSOD's are caused by either hardware or the hardware drivers (software). It may be a hardware problem or if you have changed/updated hardware drivers recently the driver may be the cause. Rod J (451)

793805 2009-07-22 03:12:00 What message do you get on the BSOD?

You could find a clue in there somewhere.

793806 2009-07-22 04:27:00 Malware / rootkits can also make you crash. So, its not only hardware or software that can cause BSOD's. And software / drivers (that may not) be compatible with your version of windows. Speedy Gonzales (78)
793807 2009-07-22 08:14:00 Around 75% of the time its driver issues

IF its not that then its hardware failure(most likely RAM)

793808 2009-07-22 09:29:00 Once at one of MS's road shows - the speaker made a comment that woke every tech in the place up.

Computers only can have two faults

Hardware
or
Software

And he was right :D So both can cause BSOD.

Edited: actually 3 ------ PEBKAC ;)

Did you just update your video card drivers, change any settings in the BIOS, install any new hardware or install any new software?

If it was faulty hardware I doubt the error would be that consistent and happen every single time.

Next time you get it or check the log then we'll know (hopefully)
