| 651378 | 2008-03-22 00:39:00 | Hmmmm  I wonder who gave the writer of the article that information. Son and family moved to Brisbane beginning of February. Daughter in law said most dairy products such as milk and cheese are cheaper there. The GST, or lack of it, would account for a certain percentage of the differences, but it's that bottom line price that bites with the New Zealand consumer. Incidentally, a farmer told me that he is getting 27 cents per litre for the milk his cows produce. Cheers, Marnie |

Guys form Fonterra and Fed Farmers keep saying that it is not them, and that the prices the farmers get is only a small part. That leaves processing (Fonterra), Transport and Marketing and Supermarkets markup. So it is about time someone came clean. And about time the Commerce Commission asked the hard questions about each step of the chain so that we know the truth. |

The NZ farmer whose product is sold on the local market cannot be disadvantaged, in relation to his fellow producer, whose product is sold into Europe etc, so you lucky people have the benefit of paying the international price while us unfortunate residents of Australia, not having the benefit of a major international dairy marketing organisation servicing our market, have the misfortune to pay the local Oz price, Milk $3.17 for 3 Litres, Butter $1.09 for 250 grams. Incidently, I find meat is cheaper here so long as one is not silly enough to buy it from the Coles/Woolworths duopoly. |

My daughter son-in-law and grand kids have moved over and love it. They've purchased a place in Bray Park (where ever that is I haven't seen it yet) and can't believe how cheap essential things are. Electricity 5c a unit, I'm paying 19.5c a unit. Petrol about 30c a litre cheaper, the list goes on. The only thing is I noticed a year ago was the tree huggers were starting to infiltrate the place. |

And what really annoys me is that they have higher wages so it is easy to pay for things and yet higher wages should mean that the things in their shops should be dearer as it is costing the employers/shops more. Yet things are cheaper. So that is a TRIPLE Whammy ! * cheaper in actual cost price * easier to buy as higher wages *Australian shops/employers should be making less - higher wages So what gives ? |

I remember when Megamonopoly Company was being set up the question of monopoly and price gouging came up The Gov and the regulators said it wasn't a problem . Well now we see that Fonterra is indeed the Megamonoploy company after all . . |

To have all goods and services taxed on GST is simple, which is generally a good thing, but I think that foodstuffs should be exempted here in NZ as well. The price of fish is atrocious. It is abundant round our coastline but costs big dollars. Cheaper to buy meat......and then we have to pay for the heart attacks, the cancer, etc. Does not make sense !!!!!!!!! Misty :2cents: |
