650345 2008-03-18 00:30:00 Hey all,

Just wondering if anybody has any suggestions here.

We bring in our own laptops (EeePC in my case) and have Wireless access, or we can setup Ad-Hoc Wifi Networks.

Basically Im after suggestions for 'entertainment' (Web-browsing / movies aside) that can be run in a small window or something, potentially turn-based, and ideally free... I ask a lot, I know ;)

Cheers all

This may seem a trifle old-fashioned of me, but in my day, we "entertained" ourselves by doing some actual work - going to the library to study towards our degrees. But hey, those were probably decadent days...

650349 2008-03-18 00:56:00 I don't know if retro gaming is your thing Chilling, but I've re-discovered a whole bunch on Playstation 1 games, and am playing them on ePSXe.

I do a lot of database work, so I can sit around twiddling my thumbs for 5 minutes at a time waiting for a query to run. I've got my emulator running in the background, playing Wild Arms as I type!! :D

The best bit is that many games actually look better now than they did originally!!

Well done that man! I used to study for a set period of time, then reward myself with a hot chocolate from the machine... Pathetic, isn't it? Better than smoking as a reward I suppose, and it worked.

650351 2008-03-18 01:31:00 Began learning Java, the only thing I *dont* know yet in our first 3x classes this semester... Wrote additional course materials to assist the 70%+ of the other class who were struggling to grasp concepts (Only gave it to a few though, felt kinda bad doing it without the tutor knowing)

Hoping it'll get incorporated into the curriculum, sent it to the Student Union

And thats on the subject that I *dont* know... ;)

Yeah, Retro gaming, but Im looking to stay legal and avoid ROMs / Emulators if possible... Some friends have got into Pokemon etc, but yeah :-/

Fair point - I'm lucky enough to still have a pretty extensive collection of PS1 games, so ROMs are legit for me . . . . I just don't have a playstation to play them on - I could buy one for a song, but I like the challenge of getting an emulator to run sweetly!

650353 2008-03-18 02:09:00 In my day it was Space Invaders, and, well, the pub.

Of course I'd never recommend these frivolous time wasters to today's motivated youth.

650354 2008-03-18 02:16:00 Yeah space invaders gets a little boring after a while, and pong too ;)

Unfortunately we're not allowed alcohol on-campus (esp during classes etc) so yeah :-/

John H,
I also do likewise, I had Hot Chips yesterday for the first time in about 3 weeks for lunch, was a nice treat. Sounds lame, but I savored every minute of it!

Multiplayer would be cool for some games...

Found Jazz Jackrabbit 2 the other day on an old disc of mine, unfortunately multiplayer must be at the same machine, and yeah... Of course, we would *never* play in-class, so thats not a problem, but you know what I mean ;)
