2009-07-26 04:00:00 | To add to my computer woes today - as well as a dead HDD on my desktop, the lappy is now showing signs of sickness. It's a Toshiba Satelite A100. It starts to boot, the line (on the Toshiba slashscreen) moves along so far, but not to the end - and that's all. So, won't boot up Linux, won't respond to the two suggested booting options (F2 or f12). Took the battery out (what else would you do!), gave it a rest (more for the good of MY soul) - haven't thrown it at the wall yet, but more constructive suggestions would be welcome!

2009-07-26 04:18:00 | Is the hdd the bootdisk in the BIOS? Was it going by power? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2009-07-26 04:30:00 | 'Is the hdd the bootdisk in the BIOS?' I'm not sure about that. How awful not to know! I know much more about my desktop.... I get the feeling I can't even get into BIOS at this stage. At the suggestion of the 'other half' I tapped it gently - that didn't do any good either. The power was on at the time.

2009-07-26 06:16:00 | Hi Speedy and RM I am working on a Toshiba Satellite P100, which is presumably pretty similar. If you want me to try/check anything out - provided you guide me through it - then I am ready and will do what I can ! - eg could have a look at BIOS Misty :2cents:

If you are certain that it doesn't even get through the BIOS then its most like a hardware failure... |

2009-07-27 08:28:00 | Mmm - I tried a variety of keys... Nothing happened when I tried to boot with the Linux disk... It is currently sitting in the repair shop... :( Everything stopped very suddenly with no warning, so I haven't managed to get important stuff off - I know, my fault. I do better at backing up the desktop. I'm managing to keep in touch with the world on my desktop courtesy of a Linux Live cd. That's a new experience! No HDD - that is currently winging it's way from Invers to Auckland for replacement under warranty. :)
