652359 2008-03-24 22:51:00 I think that the threads should be closed after they have been answered.
Its not hard to start a new thread when you have a problem, and thats what 90% of people do, they don't bother looking back to try and find a solution.

Old threads being dredged up are usually from new members trying to get a higher post count.

This is one of the reasons I left PressF1, I got tired of the lack of moderation and order in the support forums.
The support forums should take a some advise from the DotA-Allstars Technical Support Forums (forums.dota-allstars.com) where I now help out.
Threads are closed and marked as answered when the problem is solved.
Old treads are marked as inactive and can be re-opened if the creator requests.

652360 2008-03-24 23:01:00 Maybe another idea is in order.

I see on a few sites that they have "See all posts since your last visit" or "See responses to threads in which you have posted" or "See all answers to the question you raised".

I realize that when I hover over certain places on the mini-banner above the post/thread lists, it says something like "Go to first unread post in thread xxxx"" or so. It just doesn't seem to work that way for me. I quite doing it after a while.

This, I feel will keep the older posts more in line and you'll be able to instantly see if you want to reopen something that is really five years old.

Seriously, the other forums I frequent (ttlg which is also VBulletin) have this. That way when you prepare to post, it will let you know that the thread your are posting to is OLD

Define "yonks back"

I like the whole warning idea but how old should the post/thread be before it can activate that warning?

I'm surprised that no one remembers that the old forum here used to do that as well prior to the big change. Bruce implemented it after a run of thread dredgers annoyed everyone.

It didn't stop it happening though.
