IMO, torrents FTW. Its on free to air TV somewhere in the world. If you can watch it for free on TV, I don't see any problem with downloading it for free.

I totaly agree - thats why any movie you like to name is fair game, 'cause it's bound to be on free tv somewhere in the world this year
(or last year... or the year before)

thanks for that. i respect your opinion so please respect mine.

to anyone that thinks this is piracy think about this...

what say if this particular was/is/has been/ will be aired on tv for a long time.

if you pop a blank video into your VCR and record it, is that piracy ?, you dont have enough time to watch this particular cartoon at 8:30 in the morning but do look forward to watching it at 5:00 that afternoon when you get some quiet time.

what if you have a tv tuner card on your computer and you decided to record an episode off the tv and onto your computer ?... perhaps watch said episode later on, maybie once, 2x or more !? is that piracy ?

now this is the circumstance i want you, my highly esteemed peers to think about

what if one day you were told about a cartoon series and you decided to "get into it" watch it and enjoy it in your spare time. now imagine if the tv runs were screening episodes 100 - 101 -102... and so on

but you had just started watching it ! you dont know how the story came together and you don't have any history of any of the charicters and quiet frankly you want to know the history of the program, you want to be up to speed with the tv runs,?

a cartoon witch i can freely watch on tv, i can download off tv onto my computer all for free ? but me wanting to fownload episodes 1-100 would be highley illegal because they have allredy been free to tv, and god knows where else,

...another scenario if i came to f1 and asked my freinds here where i may download cloverfield before it was relesed in NZ, before the dvd came out and before it was on tv, would that be piracy... i think so.

i'll put this out there. if you have ever recorded the morning-time kids shows onto tape for the resion that you could get your child to watch it later on in the day when said child is awake and when you need time quiet time you are just as much a pirate as me.

651767 2008-03-27 05:34:00 Without being too idealistic, originally video recorders were allowed (by court rule) to be sold under a time-shifting premise. If you can't for whatever reason watch something as it airs, you can record, watch later and (stupidly) delete afterwards (this is a bit too general nowadays with HDD recorders, etc). The big difference in downloading an episode of any program from the net and watching it is the distribution methods.

Because networks have no control over this and can't count a downloader as a network viewer and consumer (its generally considered from our side, the downloaders, that this generates DVD sales income that wouldn't have been motivated in any way otherwise), they feel they are losing money out on this. As I mentioned, I think they are generally wrong.

This is the way it works in my head so don't quote me on this.

651769 2008-03-27 07:21:00 Timeshifting is legal. Format-shifting, or recording to watch more than once, is not. Erayd (23)

651771 2008-03-27 23:27:00 I think you'll find that they aren't legally on MySpace in the first place. Just because restricted material makes it onto YouTube / MySpace etc doesn't make it legal. Erayd (23)
