Thats not a "cool house" Thats just a freezing shed or barn.

well here we go,

i was just thinking, how much would it cost for a shed like building 100m x 100m cement floor and maybie 20-30m high roof

how much would this cost for materials/labour/contractor to build this ?

i was thinking this would make a cool house?

any ideas and how much would you estimate this to cost.

I think you have got your sizing wrong, as 100m x 100m would almost be too big to fit into an olympic stadium. It is more a factory sized building. I assume you mean 10mx 10m, and double storied, which would be a house size. Still a shed is an fugly building, you are better to shell out on a architect, and get some hot designed for you.

651040 2008-03-21 13:40:00 if i was a little *****, sure 10 x 10 may be well and and dandy for me. :(

however unfortunately this is not the case. i would like a big house and i dont really have the budget for something massive AND good looking.

651041 2008-03-21 15:18:00 This is the poster who recently asked where to buy Viagra - to spike his brother's Raro in the morning before school.

I'd be surprised if he was in a position to build in the near future...

651043 2008-03-21 21:01:00 I could be wrong but isn't a rugby pitch 100m long? if so you will require similar land size to a stadium. plod (107)

If you can afford this massive empty shed I dare say you could afford a pretty nice home. I am a builder so I will run you off some quick figures.

100m x 100m = 1000m2 floor area

A base rate for labour is about $100 per m2 so $100,000 for labour for the builder(an average home is about $50,000 labour for the builder). Keeping in mind this rate would most likely go up alot because of the huge roof and walls this structure would require and man power.

As stated earlier you would require a minimum of 1000m3 of concrete for the floor at $180 per m3 = $180,000 this would in real life would be substantially more as the floor would probally be required to be 150mm thick instead of the usual 100mm. Pluss footings for the building etc.

Materials I wouldnt have a clue depends on what you are after at least
$200,000+

Draughtsman cost = $
Engineer cost = $$$

Section for this, a farm or commercial property say minimum $500,000 - $1,000,000

Consent fees for this = $50,000 +

I take a stab in the dark and say $1,500,000 - $2,000,000 for the shed.

Heating is a bit more than a heat pump or 2 and would probally require an industrial diesel burner = expensive

I would be planning to be doing something in it other than living to be able to pay for it. :) :)

Personally I would buy something in the $600,000 - $1,000,000 bracket and spend the rest on toys and investments.

And council permission to actually go 100m UP. Good luck with getting any of your neighbours agreeing to a monstrosity like that.

651046 2008-03-23 11:31:00 firstly, thats a warehouse/factory. not a shed

secondly, you'd spend a small fortune just on a flat area of land big enough to build that

thirdly, the miles of red tape and consents would be horrendous

and finally, the materials alone would exceed a million bucks

not that you'd ever need that much space anyway

the only way to make that viable is to either rent/sell the thing or build internal walls and sell parts thereof, or to be running a company that needs that sort of space. oddly enough that's the only reason things of that scale get built:p
