Suffice to say that if I wanted a new Hard drive for myself or others I would go get a Seagate.

So in light of all of the above, what would you all do?

Newish pc, putting in a new hard drive ... Seagate or Western Digital??

Good warrantees on both but I prefer reasonable reliability:)

794997 2009-07-25 00:48:00 Just put a WD blue into my backup comp 3 weeks ago and is going good so far gary67 (56)
794998 2009-07-25 01:21:00 I would go for either a Western Digital Black 32MB cache harddrive or Samsung Spinpoint 32MB cache harddrive.

Any harddrives that I have that are giving me problems I get rid of as fast as I can so my system stays up and running and is safe,I dont want to loose my OS,movies, music, games, etc and have to start all over again!!!:horrified:D

794999 2009-07-25 01:32:00 I was told that Seagate have had a "Bad batch' of HDD's out recently. I had two 32GB ones new - one failed to start from unwrap, so I took it back to Friendly Computers and they happily exchanged both for Western Digital units, same capacity. He remarked that he had had a couple of short life ones recently, but the DOA was a new trick to him.
i have always been a rabid Seagate fan, I have a few older ones that are still humming sweetly after 7 years, and quite a few 5 YO ones. no problems until this latest event. When I needed another 500GB drive last week, Seagate was not on the shopping list, I got a Samsung.
I must say that I have never heard of anyone having trouble with Seagate's warranty procedure.
