654518 2008-03-31 05:22:00 so get home today and find my phone line a bit dead-ish.

no dial-tone, just a odd echo on the line.....
ADSL works fine, good speed.

I have a fault logged with telecom.
they expect to have a tech out tomorrow afternoon.

my question is......

should i expect a discount from telecom due to the outage?
should i demand a discount?
how much??

654519 2008-03-31 06:51:00 Yes, you should expect a discount and do demand that you receive one. I am not at all certain how much but ask and you will be told.

They make $3m profit a day so I think that they are able to afford it.:p

Who was the fool who sold Telecom?

What faults will Telecom fix?

telecom.custhelp.com We will fix, at no charge, all faults on our network outside your home or with equipment you rent from us. We will also fix most faults in phone sockets and wiring inside your home if you have selected our optional standard wiring maintenance service, and if the fault is covered by that service.
If the fault is not in their equipment, they WILL charge you

Our normal charges to you

Our charges to you will normally include:
a residential line rental
a wiring maintenance charge for our optional standard wiring maintenance service.Examples of other charges for commonly used services include charges for:
local calls if you have selected one of the available alternatives to our standard residential line rental
installing or making any changes to your sockets, wiring or equipment
fixing faults in sockets, wiring or equipment not covered by our standard wiring maintenance service
directory assistance, Telecom National and International Calls, Smartphone services and verifying busy lines
visiting your home to do anything you ask us to do which is not part of a service we have already agreed to provide for you.

No,Thats more like taking advantage and a bit greedy .

They are paying to send out someone to fix your line thats if your line has problems and assuming its not your end .

I simply wouldn't ask for a discount and demand 1 .

If you everyone asks for a refund due to their line or broadband not working for a few days then I think all the company would be bankrupt by now .

If the problem exist say for a few weeks then I would ask for some sort of compensation .

but just a few days is a bit unnecessary .

my first more was to remove all other things from the line.
we only have one jack point.

with only the one hand set pluged in we still have a problem.

we pay for wireing maintnance and so as long as fault is not my hand set then we wont have to pay. (so says the telecom guy)

You are most probably correct - it is a bit greedy, but I think that you will find that it is their policy to give refunds and it is not uncommon for Telecom staff to remind the customer that they should apply for a refund.

Drcspy: That's right. Unplug everything. before you call them. If the fault still exists it is most probably their equipment.

If they prove the fault to your equipment you will most probably be charged.

How simple it was 30 years ago when the only piece of equipment on the end of the line was a telephone.:)

It was simpler then because the exchange end was mechanical, you could usually see what was wrong.

Very true, although you would possibly hear it first. The electro-mechanical (step-by-step) exchange was very noisy but a trained ear could normally detect a problem. If you did not hear the fault there was the occasional loud alarm to sharpen (or dull) your senses.

Maybe if we did demand a discount more then they'd get the system into shape quicker.

If you hired bridal car and it broke down on the way to the wedding in the pouring rain would you be so forgiving.

If the system was engineered properly then it shouldn't breakdown a often as it does.
