| 654024 | 2008-03-29 19:40:00 | www.nzherald.co.nz west Auckland couple both work 50 hours a week, with a combined annual income of $120,000, but are crippled by weekly mortgage payments of over $900 for a $375,000 house. I dunno but with $120K that leaves a lot of change? Do you find your mortgage hard to pay or are they just whinging? |

| 654025 | 2008-03-29 20:26:00 | I agree pctek, while I'm glad I'm mortgage free, you'd have to say the story referred to doesn't add up. $120K income, less $47K for mortgage leaves them with more income than our household. Don't see why you would have to budget to the last $ when you've got $70K spare......not enough for a holiday??? I'm sure there are plenty of families (let alone couples) that would love the chance to work with a budget of $70K, after the rent/motgage was accounted for. |

Smokes, booze etc maths -Round figures Mortgage $900 x 52 weeks =$46,800 Income = $120,000 So $120,000 - $46,800 = $73,200 = A lot of money even taking into account power, food etc We have a mortgage, not that high, but theres a thing called a budget & we do OK. |

| 654028 | 2008-03-29 20:38:00 | I would suggest that the $120000 income is gross, that is before tax. So nett income is probably about $80000 to $85000. | Richard (739) | ||

| 654032 | 2008-03-29 21:03:00 | Is that compulsory? No, but far too many people want to keep up with the Jones' at any cost. |

Okay, 85 less 47 is still $38,000 after paying your mortgage. Plenty of couples/families live on less than that. It's not exactly "visit the foodbank" time. |
