796322 2009-07-29 23:09:00 Yesterday I got an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD when I tried to shut down. Every time I power down, I get a BSOD just after the screen goes into standby. Why does it happen at that time, every time? And does anyone know if there are known issues with Crucial Ballistix Tracer RAM? sammo450 (13626)
796323 2009-07-29 23:51:00 Its a driver error.

Obviously relating to the standby.

Check Event Viewer, update chipset drivers, graphics drivers etc.

Check in device manager for ! a X and event log(run>eventvwr)

796325 2009-07-30 04:14:00 Hmm. I tried installing Win7 on a separate partition last night, and when I rebooted it got the point where I could see the cursor, but then it BSODd. Back to my existing install, it decided my 9600gt was too old to run aero. I've screwed something up. It BSODs on shutdown as well as standby. How can you be sure it's a driver issue? The IRQL_NOT.... relates to being unable to access a particular memory address. sammo450 (13626)
796326 2009-07-30 04:22:00 No. that error relates to drivers or hardware problems. Blam (54)
796327 2009-07-30 04:26:00 OK then. What's the best way to go about troubleshooting that then? sammo450 (13626)
796328 2009-07-30 05:17:00 Check the event log for warnings/critical errors. Blam (54)
796329 2009-07-30 05:38:00 You need to check the Event logs or provide the Error Code.

You can try doing a memory Test using memtest86

(www.memtest86.com) if the memory is failing/Failed under a load that will cause a BSOD as well.

it decided my 9600gt was too old to run aero Rubbish - its not to old.

My Older FX5200 runs the Aero , while not fast, it does work. So the 9600gt will be fine.

796330 2009-07-31 01:06:00 Yeah I know it isn't, got the latest drivers from nVidia, one problem down :P Windows 7 has a memory diagnostic which can be accessed from the boot menu, is this as good as memtest86? sammo450 (13626)
