653905 2008-03-29 05:26:00 HI Guys.

Who do you blame for the large increase in the price of milk and cheese in New Zealand.

Fonterra say they are just following overseas prices. The Sunday Star last week blamed the supermarkets for taking an increased margin. Who do you blame

Regards

653907 2008-03-29 05:40:00 The cows. Yeah :p Thats because its greener on the other side of the fence and they have to walk further for tthe better grass - which equals more hoofs per Km.

Its the old story, each blame one another for price increases, and you'll probably never get an honest answer - ask any politician

Fonterra.

They don't have to charge NZ the same.

653910 2008-03-29 06:20:00 If Fonterra were to sell to one customer (us) for less than all the others (o'seas), they would be failing to get the best result for their suppliers, and rapidly would get a gumboot encrusted sedentary zone. Why should they sell to the lowest bidder? R2x1 (4628)

653912 2008-03-29 07:11:00 Maybe it's time to get milk imported, if practical, and a much lower price to NZ consumers... kahawai chaser (3545)

653914 2008-03-29 07:26:00 Maybe China for a start (depending on quality, regulations, etc) for a start - They seem to mass produce just about anything cheap, and export world wide. I saw some butter and jam in our local chinese import veggie shop (botany downs/east tamaki). I thought it was NZ made, until a closer look... kahawai chaser (3545)
