796170 2009-07-29 08:42:00 Hey my parents have been bugging me for a long time saying that their pc downstairs is going very slow, so I just thought that they were comparing it to their pcs at work which get get replaced every 3 years, so I went down stairs to see my self how slow it was and it was slower than I would have thought it would be.
Specs are Pentium 4 2.8 cpu with HT
1 Gb of ddr1 ram in 2x256 and 1x512.
80gb IDE HDD
Running Xp Home SP 2
Any ideas?

796175 2009-07-29 10:13:00 so ccleaner for reg? nedkelly (9059)
796176 2009-07-29 10:15:00 yep, although glary utilities reg cleaner does a more thorough scan GameJunkie (72)
796177 2009-07-29 10:18:00 That machine should definitely run well. Under specced machines really struggle when running too many unnecessary startups. This one should handle this OK but there is no virtue in running them so check and delete as required.

Do they run Nortons per chance? If so, get rid.

Also check in Device Manager that the HDD is not running in PIO mode. That sure as hell will slow it down.

Just peeped and saw you found a 19GB folder!! That sounds a bit excessive!

Good luck.

796178 2009-07-29 10:24:00 Is glary free? cause it sounds like it is awesome. How about Spotmau? ,Yeah they are running Norton Internet Security and wont get rid of it cause it has about 270 days of subscription left. Hmm have never heard of PIO mode and im a qualified PC tech. Yeah thought that I had made a thread about the folder but cant seem to find it. nedkelly (9059)
796179 2009-07-29 10:25:00 glary is free, there is a pay version but the free one is just fine GameJunkie (72)
