656253 2008-04-05 23:47:00 That's really tragic . . . . my wife just read this too and asked how milk and cheese can explode . . . .

At a loss myself, I can only assume it was the gas used for cooking or heating . . . like in the pasteurizing process .

Let the rest of the world know what actually happened .

I noticed too that the plant wasn't officially "working" . . . . so that kept the casualties to a minimum .

Too bad about the firemen . . . they work so hard to just save people and possessions from immolation and accidents . . and they aren't even thought about until they are needed .

Hopefully this is the only big fire NZ ever has .

656254 2008-04-05 23:59:00 Tragic whenever a fireman (person) gets hurt or killed, But the fire itself wasn't particularly big. Metla (12)
656255 2008-04-06 00:42:00 The fireman that was killed was a popular member of another forum that I frequent where his best mate posted a very moving and sad tribute to him this morning . His mate is currently on annual leave otherwise he would have attended the same call-out . The fireman was due to start his own leave this coming week when the pair of them had activities planned together .

He was 49 and leaves behind a wife and two-year-old daughter . :(

656259 2008-04-11 22:39:00 Did anybody got o the service? I tried to get off work early to stand in the street to pay my respects, but my replacement was late.

I drove past there on the second day, reminded me of being in Iraq our hotel got blown apart, the look is very similar.

656260 2008-04-12 01:16:00 Some of the people on the other forum went to the service. One person said it was the funniest and longest funeral he had ever been to. He said he had never laughed so much at such a sombre time.

Highlights of the funeral are available on TV3's website here
(www.tv3.co.nz).
