655985 2008-04-04 09:15:00 All I know, Is me buddy bought a DSE branded one for his Mrs, It was replaced 3 times in 2 weeks, He asked for his money back and was told they were constantly being returned due to faults.

Personally I'd buy a $600 laptop, Load 20 trillion photos on her, and put it on the shelf.....

There is a philips clock radio thing, that looks quite good, and also works as a photo frame, and is about the same price too. www.dse.co.nz

655989 2008-04-04 21:46:00 You could buy an Eee, load a slimmed down copy of XP (http://www.nliteos.com) on it and have ~3-3.5GB for photos.

And you can use it as a laptop as well. $600 for Linux version, $700 for Windows version. Wipe the SSD of whatever's on there and install a cut down XP - if you buy the XP version you get ~1GB left after install.

655990 2008-04-04 22:03:00 why not just use the linux install?

Surely that can run a slideshow just as easy as Xp?

The Linux version leaves approx 1.4GB after install and IIRC it's not easy to remove components, which if you're using it as a photo frame isnt very much space.

Reinstall a slim XP and 3GB remains. IMHO Win XP makes it easier to make slideshows than the Linux on the eee.

655993 2008-04-05 05:32:00 I brought the philips one when it first came out for $375 IIRC. Only bad thing about it is that you can't replace the battery, it has to stay plugged in all the time now. pine-o-cleen (2955)
