655594 2008-04-02 22:25:00 Hi Guys.

I have started redecorating the bedrooms and have done the ceilings and now to start on the skirting boards. These have been sanded ready for painting.
Has anyone any helpful hints as to how I can keep the paint from getting on the edges of the carpet. Most probably a metal ruler or similar could be answer, but any ideas??

Thanks
Smithie

655595 2008-04-02 22:33:00 Last time I did it I used a sheet of stiff A4 card. You can jam it right under the skirting, no paint gets anywhere. Also always put a drop cloth down, even if you don't think you'll need it.

And use a smaller brush. I find about 1.5" (www.myluenwan.com) or smaller is good. Might take longer, but it will be cleaner.

You should use a small brush close to the carpet. Masking tape does not stick all that well to carpet, but parcel tape is better and could be used. You can buy fairly wide and perhaps augment it with newspaper for more width.

There is a blue masking tape - sorry, don't know the name although I have seen it advertised on TV - that you might want to use to mask the wallpaper. If not left on for too long it should lift off (carefully!) without damaging the paper, although I would try it on a scrap first.

Hope that it is worth it. Gives you much satisfaction doing it yourself.:)

655597 2008-04-02 22:38:00 You can buy packets of plastic strips which are about 50 or 60 cm long which have a bend built into them and you slot these in between the carpet and the skirting.
I thinkk Gb or Resene or Mitre 10 sell them

655598 2008-04-02 23:44:00 Thanks guys for your suggestions. Sounds like a small brush and the plastic strips suggested by bonzo29 would be the answer.

I know Roscoe - I am being careful - I don't want to stuff it up hence seeking suggestions.

Off now to Resene to buy the strips.

I do understand and agree. It's the end result that I find satisfying, not the painting!

655602 2008-04-04 07:38:00 I try to skirt around the painting unless I am bored. R2x1 (4628)
