| 796499 | 2009-07-30 07:37:00 | I've installed Vista a few times now on my own PC using my Pioneer DVD-Writer that has a reading speed of 16x for DVDs. It takes the damn thing a minute or two to even load the setup menu to install Vista, and though I've never timed it, it took me considerably longer than when I installed Vista (using the same disc) on a friend's PC. And on his PC it took only a few seconds for Vista's setup menu to load. Any idea why this is? It's a SATA DVD-Writer....shouldn't it be fast? |

| 796501 | 2009-07-30 07:43:00 | Hmmm that didn't occur to me.....but isn't 16x already as fast as it could be for reading? | qazwsxokmijn (102) | ||

| 796504 | 2009-07-30 09:30:00 | Had a similar problem with Windows 7 DVD. On this machine which is quite fast it takes 5mins just to display the set up screen...while on a slower laptop its only about 40 seconds. But when I load the Vista DVD onto this desktop its fast. No idea why. Mysteries of life eh? |

If you mean when installing for the first time -- on an Existing Workshop PC, currently has XP Pro. Started PC with Vista DVD in Drive. From " press any key to Boot from CD/DVD" - both Vista and W7 started loading files 1-2 seconds. Untill you get the first screen you can click - location, etc. vista 1 Min + 50 Seconds W7 1 Min + 25 Seconds. The drive is an Asus DRW-24B1LT DVD Writer. |

Just to make it clear - Vista screen first shows up; 1 min 50 secs; then you can click location etc, right? I wonder why it's much faster on some machines? |
