796383 2009-07-29 23:49:00 Laptop drops broadband connection
• Tried the laptop on another broadband system: passed (55min, 33min)
• Tried the customers modem with a different broadband account: passed
• Reset the customers new adsl modem with customers username and new password: partially worked, stayed connected but stalled on Windows updates
• Changed to the other broadband system, windows updated smoothly & successfully
• Variety of malware scans: clean

Only difference is the ISP
customers ISP: Telecom
other ISP: TelstraClear

any suggestions?

796387 2009-07-30 00:51:00 I thought of this as well.

But, this doesn't explain why the other connection works fine.
Meaning that the laptop is not at the owners place.

796388 2009-07-30 01:35:00 Have you tried your customers details on a different ( Known working) Modem, but using their Username/Password for Telecom ?

This will test if its the modem not liking Telecom (wouldn't blame it) :p or the telecom account someplace.

No I haven't as I figured it was a new modem.
But to eliminate possibilities, I will and report back
