| 655396 | 2008-04-02 07:32:00 | I use to flat next door to Asians for over a year (In Papatoetoe, Auckland), whom I found friendly, even had the occasional party with them, but they were a bit verbally loud outside, but got use to it. Their young kids (girls) were well presented, and very polite - they use to play with mine. Often they gave us small consumer goods, and exotic dishes from their import/food company. Man, I recall all the cool entertainment video's/gadgets (Karaoke, early Jackie Chan movies, etc) they showed us... About 13 years later, I came across them (the girls) at the local beach, said hello, etc, but I could see they were still with their own ethnic groups... |

I know many are highly capable of speaking English. And shyness? I overcame mine, don't see why anyone else can't. You could ask why Kiwis don't try to befriend more Asians? Nah, most kiwis are automatically friendly to Asians. Many of my kiwi friends introduced themselves to me, rather than the other way around. I think we have a lot to learn from other cultures. Most certainly. And what better way to do that than venture out and socialise with other races too? |

| 655398 | 2008-04-02 08:04:00 | I've nothing much against Asians other than the fact they breed too much. The world simply can't handle too many more people. I don't blame them for all wanting to come and live over here, but sooner or later, if we let too many of them in, this country will just become part of Asia (or maybe we already are). While many bring alot of benefits to the country and integrate well, a sizeable number don't make any effort and I don't think that's a healthy thing for a nation. And if anyone thinks I'm racist or xenophobic for stating the above then they need their head checked. NZ First will no doubt be accused of 'playing the race card' but I think they are looking ahead and trying to maintain some sort of balance. If left unchecked, immigration can cause more problems than it solves. Do we want to become like Britain? |

I enjoyed working with them, but they are very earnest and therefore gullible and it's easy to take the piss. David (anglicised name) and I were to go on a trip to another town where we'd stay in a motel for a few days and cook our own meals. He asked what we'd eat and I said that all I ever ate was steak and chips and eggs, fried in mutton fat. When we arrived at the airport, he had a huge suitcase. I asked him what he had in it and he said his wife had made him bring the rice cooker. Actually, barbequed steak with rice is pretty tasty, as I found out that week. |

But I don't want people to think I'm being racist towards myself. I do however liked how John Campbell pissed off what's his name on Campbell Live tonight. :D |

| 655402 | 2008-04-02 08:29:00 | There are 45 countries in Asia. People tend to equate Asians as Chinese and think that all Chinese are from China, which is not true. China's population is 1.4 billion and growing. Every week, the population grows by almost 1 million. Every 1.5 months, 4.2 million babies are born (equivalent to 1 New Zealand). Like it or not, we are going to see more of them everywhere. China and India are the powerhouse of the future. It's a global economy, we can't isolate ourselves any longer. | Taurus (9579) | ||

"we can't isolate ourselves any longer" - not sure what you're saying here. You think we should just give in and let the floodgates open? Once you do that, there's no going back. Given the increasing size of the world's population and inevitable fight for resources, I'd say there's a fair benefit to maintaining this country's population to current levels. Why do you think so many people want to come and live here? It's because we are isolated and Asia/Europe etc are so damn overcrowded now. |

| 655405 | 2008-04-02 08:43:00 | Isolate? You wish. When the planet is even more overcrowded than it is now, you won't be able to stop the waves after waves of illegal immigrants, be them Asians, Africans, Pacific Islanders, Americans, Europeans whatever. | qazwsxokmijn (102) | ||
