It gives me the willies thinking what might have happened had they included XP.

In a few years it may be one of the safest operating systems, thats if Vista or the next version of Windows really takes off. I doubt this somehow.

654905 2008-04-01 05:29:00 Interesting that they used Ubuntu 7.10 for the Linux distro. When I read the linked article I wondered if they had used a more locked down distro that uses SELinux (Security Enchanced Linux) by default. Makes it more fair they choose one of the most popular and common distros with default settings.

CanSecWest PWN2OWN 2008 (cansecwest.com).

Could be a problem for Winderz, as it doesn't have a "best of breed", but that doesn't stop lots of people liking it for some reason.

654909 2008-04-01 22:29:00 Maybe the reason that Vista took so long to break was that the attack had to be a brand new one. Not hard to get a brand new hack for macs now is it? About the only security breaches they've had are the Month of Mac.
But finding a new breach for MS? Given that every hacker and his dog has had a go at it? Granted, harder with SP1.

654910 2008-04-01 22:49:00 Im not sure what you're getting at in the previous post.

Lets review the facts:
Latest MacOS
Vista SP1
Ubuntu 7.10

No matter what neck of the woods you come from, having to find a new vulnerability in an OS is not an easy feat! I'd love to see you go give it a try e even WITH a fully-disclosed vulnerability!

I take my hat off to the guys who do it, even if they had to use some form hack with Java or whatever... doing it is doing it, well done to them :)
