We spend money earned as it comes in for bills, mortgage and weekly groceries. We're at the point where even $50 a week is quite the blessing. We're not extravagant at all and never buy anything that we don't really need. I guess people don't know how lucky they are until they live a poorer life. I was looking at the more long term view. If typical tax cuts are provided are significantly more NZders going to defer their travelling plans or are significantly more expats NZders going to return back to NZ. Is it going to significantly reduce the income gap difference between say NZ and AU. |

| 655528 | 2008-04-06 08:50:00 | Yup .. my cousins in HKG the same .. my uncle deferred his plans to Canada cos he would not get a job like his there .. he's in the jewellery of glass blowing stuff. Some of them are reported of earning like 6 digits NZD as school teachers. |

| 655529 | 2008-04-06 08:52:00 | Living in Hong Kong will drive me insane. I might even get jailed for killing. Hong Kong's animal treatment utterly disgusts me. The way they cage and kill dogs infuriates me to the point where I couldn't guarantee human blood wouldn't be on my hands. And the pollution and temperature.....don't get me started on that. Last time I went back to my birth country, Indonesia seven years ago, I was sweltering in the heat. Now the temp has risen by about 3 degrees since the last time I had been there!! Asia is too overcrowded....it's not my style. Sure, having money would be nice and all, but NZ is home to me now - a home that I actually like and proud to actually call a home. |

Thats because Hong kong is small but how do we know not NZ isn't like this? New Zealand is bigger too. There's muttons ,lambs, cows being slaughtered as well too but we just don't know where they slaughter the animals nor do we hear about it. There are reporters that dig deep into sources and report these kind of news in Hk. There was news about chicken slaughter in USA how they treat the chicken and supply those chicken at KFC. I agree with the over crowding and pollution.Pollution are mostly from China which I don't like. I rather suffer a little than just stay in NZ It's very dull for me...Everything is just too slow.10 years behind the rest of the world. All of my friends have left NZ.I am the last to stay |

| 655534 | 2008-04-06 09:21:00 | They'll rather employ people on a low wage, people who have no idea what theyre doing, and in the end, they'll make crap products, and service. Don't always think cheap is crappy. Most of the LCD TVs including Sony are made in China, so are the computers, including Apple computers, the hugely popular iPhones, iPods, Mission speakers, Wharfedale speakers, hifi sets, etc Soon they will be bringing cars from China. Of course the owners are pocketing heaps from operations in China including NZ manufacturers but most of it are not translated to savings for consumers. They paid cheap prices for operations in china but charge us NZ prices. I have mentioned this before. I bought a NZ made foot spray while in Singapore for $7.50. The same product here costs me $11.50. The call by political parties to support local manufacturers. I would say for fixed income earners, go for value for money wherever it is made (of course legally). In the end, it's your money. I would love to support local manufacturers but it has to be reasonable. The reason for pricy things here is the lack of competition. |
