| 655516 | 2008-04-06 05:08:00 | Clean seas, clean bush, fresh mountain air, no Euro or Asian Smog, no overcrowding, Kiwis, great weather, NZ people, foreigners (many who actually like it here), great seafood, world's best oysters, islands.... the list goes on. Nomad... ditto to you what I said to Ninjabear. There are more variety of seafood overseas.lol. If many foreigners like this place.I wonder why NZ are losing people.People are going overseas to live.Looks like there are better styles overseas Everybody have their own liking of style but NZ isnt my place to stay.I'll be going back at the end of the year.Maybe I'll go to australia to live..lol The other day i had a guy asking me a really weird question "Can you please help me choose the fastest DIALUP plan available?" lol.. |

| 655517 | 2008-04-06 05:16:00 | NZ'ers are going overseas coz of the economy / price of things, costs of getting anywhere, its too expensive. And you'll probably get a job faster overseas than in NZ Its the same reason why NZ companies have gone elsewhere. They probably paid the employees too much money in NZ. They'll rather employ people on a low wage, people who have no idea what theyre doing, and in the end, they'll make crap products, and service. If I could move, I would. And youre right its a better lifestyle overseas |

That's why I like New Zealand. I have no plans to move other than if I solidify my plans to go to Idaho and get my PhD on wolf behaviour and social structure. |

| 655519 | 2008-04-06 05:34:00 | NZ has great seafood but can we get them .. We know people who have restaurants .. so they can get stuff via wholesale thou there are a few places that does wholesale and retail but getting seafood that is not frozen is just unbelievably hard. I mean fish that is still swimming live. Occasionally they do have them .. and the tank only has like 2 or 3. I was in Sydney and there were more seafood than NZ. I had more oysters, they were so much larger than NZ's, and opened on the day, I saw his opening it at the front counter. Everything gets exported out. They are willing to pay for big bucks. We purchase blue cod, tarraki, flounder when we can .. bought fresh thou not alive. As in whole. I would really like a ultra fresh blue cod - still live. Or oysters/scallops bought by the shell .... |

We know people who have restaurants . . so they can get stuff via wholesale thou there are a few places that does wholesale and retail but getting seafood that is not frozen is just unbelievably hard . I mean fish that is still swimming live . Occasionally they do have them . . and the tank only has like 2 or 3 . I was in Sydney and there were more seafood than NZ . I had more oysters, they were so much larger than NZ's, and opened on the day, I saw his opening it at the front counter . Everything gets exported out . They are willing to pay for big bucks . We purchase blue cod, tarraki, flounder when we can . . bought fresh thou not alive . As in whole . I would really like a ultra fresh blue cod - still live . Or oysters/scallops bought by the shell . . . . I remember when i was shopping with my grandma . She was thinking of having fish for dinner . She took me to a place where they sell fishes . haha it was alive in a container and she got to choose which fish she likes . lol . I remember she took me to a market where they sell meat . She got to choose the chicken she wanted . The chicken was alive in a cage too . Taste differently of course . It had a stronger chicken taste than those that are here in NZ where its already dead and frozen and you just grab it in the supermarket . We talking about chicken that are alive and sell them to you when you want it . They of course chop the chicken's head off and pull their feathers off when they're dead of course . I found that kinda weird . lol . Seafood here are either frozen or dead unless you catch them of course . There are different restaurants for different types of food overseas something which I really miss in NZ but anyway talking about customer service Slow pace is not often a good thing . People become lazy . For example the Courier post delivery guy thats too lazy to walk 5m down the hostel to deliver my parcel and instead save the 5m walk and ditch it at the office . Sometimes he would even sign my parcel and leave it outside the office door . If someone walks pass they could easily ditch it No matter who you call when there's problems they never call you back . Like for example Vodafone . I had a problem with them . All I wanted to do was to change my plan . What happened? They said their system was down and she would get to me after 1 hour . She never did . I called up 777 and told them to do it for me across the phone . God . . Why does it take 3-4 weeks to fix a mobile under warranty with vodafone? It only takes 3-4 hours in Hk . Oh the pain . . . Why is it that you have to pay $3 . 50 for a saturday courier delivery?Saturday is a half working day overseas . There's alot of things which I am unhappy about . Thats why I have decided to leave . Some People are too layback . Some people are too slow . forget things . . . I'm really fed up the fact that it took etown 1 month to refund money when they clearly had no stock . When I sell things on trademe . I do things quick and move on to the next purchase . Someone wants to fix their mobile which I provide 1 year waranty on . I reply instantly and have it send to hong kong for repair straight away . No hesitation . No being lazy or taking things slowly . I think some people in NZ should do things a little bit faster . It's unbearable for me Do you feel my pain? |

| 655521 | 2008-04-06 05:53:00 | (snip) I was in Sydney and there were more seafood than NZ. I had more oysters, they were so much larger than NZ's, and opened on the day, I saw his opening it at the front counter. (snip) I was in Sydney for my daughter's wedding in January and my son in law and I went to the Sydney fish market to buy sea food for a barbecue. They did have a wide variety as you say, but the oysters (though they were on the shell) were those crap Pacific oysters. No Foveaux Strait or Nelson oysters - the other kind are only worth eating if you are picking them fresh off the rocks. They also had quite a lot of fish like snapper labelled "NZ Snapper - Product of Australia". They not only thieve our best musicians etc, they also thieve ownership of our sea food without noticing what they are doing. A related point - I know that a lot of South East Asians (particularly Cambodian) have moved from NZ to Sydney because of the size of the (e.g.) Cambodian community over there, and because of the availability of a wider range of their traditional foods than we can supply here. So good old NZ took them in as refugees, re-united their families, and then they bugger off to another country that is only taking them because they have a NZ passport. I can understand it, but it is annoying when you think of how many resources we have put into them through the fares over here, the refugee resettlement services, welfare benefits, housing, health care etc. I am not arguing that we should restrict our support of refugees, but it still feels crook what has been happening. |

| 655522 | 2008-04-06 07:03:00 | You can get live chicken - from a poultry farm but you need to harvest it yourself. They may also have some prepared but that might not be as fresh. Some of the restaurants has a supplier, I think they are around $25 for a chicken. They are free range, hormones free. The size of the bird is sig smaller than what you find in the supermarket. Restaurants have them for like weddings and festival dates. One of the things I found in NZ is that they might not be any duck farms. When we buy frozen ducks - they are imported they take the foie-gras out. I thought I would get into some french culinary experience that that duck liver and duck breast ... |

I always wonder if the ducks at the square in palmerston taste good or not Heard from my dad that their meat isnt really tasty otherwise everyone would've ate it all by now . Still I'm curious . lol |

| 655524 | 2008-04-06 07:33:00 | Some of you talk about the cost and the pay in NZ. I think, while NZ may have a bit better pay for ordinary jobs than some countries. In NZ can be harder to get more $$ if you compare the two, if you wanted to work longer hours or get a 2nd job or in the w'ends etc. If you are skilled you are paid more overseas. NZ has been compared to Oz. I don't what the truth is, but if Oz is higher wages overtime NZ may get further and further away and how much can NZ sustain for. Are NZders happy to remain in NZ and just let cost rise higher proportionally than their wages. That's not going to help the brain drain either .. I have graduated for a few years and I still owe over $20,000 for a student loan. The govt says if you are in NZ they will waive interest so in that regard, there is not much point paying off the loan quicker cos I can invest the money myself and gain more that way .. I think even if I get $50 more per week for tax cuts, so what .. what's $50 going to buy me. Goes hardly anywhere when you are trying to bridge the gap say London, say Australia .. |

| 655525 | 2008-04-06 08:02:00 | $50 can buy a few things. You obviously haven't really lived through the poor conditions many Asians live through.....even in NZ my family isn't a big earner at all. We spend money earned as it comes in for bills, mortgage and weekly groceries. We're at the point where even $50 a week is quite the blessing. We're not extravagant at all and never buy anything that we don't really need. I guess people don't know how lucky they are until they live a poorer life. |
