655874 2008-04-03 21:25:00 A mate’s got two Uniden cordless phones in his business premises.

They have given him grief for a long time now with poor signal strength and poor quality.

Anyway, he got onto Telecom about them and they checked his line and said there was nothing wrong with the cable pair. Fair enough.

However, the Test Clerk went on to ask him if one of the phones was positioned near a Microwave. One was (about 2m) and he was told he would have to shift it. The Microwave didn’t even have to be working he was told.

Got me, I can’t see how a Microwave, Working or Idle, would effect a cordless phone.

Anyway, I thought I’d toss it around amongst you guys and see what the consensus of opinion is.

655875 2008-04-03 21:45:00 Probably because the phone is wireless (it uses 2.4 ghz freq).

If its the same as this phone.

It'll be because its wireless not because its cordless, that a microwave may affect it

655877 2008-04-03 22:52:00 Yup it's definitely a problem - my parents' microwave knocks out their cordless phone, and a lot of phones affect & are affected by wireless LAN's too

The 2.4ghz spectrum is a very crowded one, no?

Define running. Plugged in? Turned on? Heating a pie?

Actually heating something in the cavity .

Just being plugged in and switched on is no problem .

If it interferes over any distance I'd check the door for warping . RF leakage should be minimal, but you never know with Chinese products, they might substitute recycled shopping bags for the door screening and paint it black with dried pigs' blood (iron content donchaknow) .

Cheers
