655676 2008-04-03 01:14:00 What does everyone think about the new car exhaust law coming into affect very soon? If you haven't heard about it i will tell you.

From june 1 there is a new law that will take affect that requires car exhausts to not exceed 90 decibels otherwise it will be taken off the road by police and won't pass it's warrant. You can read the article>> www.stuff.co.nz

So if you have a modified exhaust on your car you should get it noise tested to see if it is under the new 90db limit otherwise you'll fail the warrant from june 1. you should tell your mates too in case they get caught out.

655677 2008-04-03 01:17:00 90db is plenty loud enough.

I have twin pipes, both with 2.5 inch tips, and that's <85db at 6000rpm.

Any louder and people will get annoyed when boy racers muck around all night. If the damn exhausts weren't so loud, they would find life a whole lot easier.

655679 2008-04-03 08:09:00 wow i don't even have a car so of course im annoyed of loud exhausts. 90 DB can still damage your ears. Disturb the old people and scare animals. JUST INSANE (6682)
655680 2008-04-03 08:11:00 From what distance do they measure the noise? Straight from the exhaust or a coup0le meters away? qazwsxokmijn (102)
655681 2008-04-03 08:54:00 For a first offence they should impound the car for 28 days; for a second offence, crush the car. Any subsequent offence, the driver stays in while it goes through the crusher.
They could probably sell tickets, and auction the crusher "start button press" privilege. :badpc: :punk :clap

655682 2008-04-03 19:56:00 im not in the slightest bit worried about this new exhaust noise law - got my car tested and the result was 82DB at 6500rpm but it got quieter to 80DB at 8000RPM

a bit weird as i would think the more RPM an engine does the more noise it makes yadda yadda....

either way im not going to be having any trouble with this new law :clap

655684 2008-04-03 20:28:00 Why these children want to have noisy exhausts that annoy most mature people is beyond belief. Thankfully most seem to grow out of it. Unfortunately there are many more juveniles that take their place.:stare:

I have no problem with them making a noise as long as they do it somewhere applicable such as on the racing track. Why not go to Pukekohe rather than the suburbs or do these adolescents enjoy annoying law abiding folk? :illogical

When buying a property it would be nice not to buy alongside a noisy railway line or under the flight path to the airport. Most people would avoid a noisy environment such as that. But where do you purchase a house free from these infantile children? These days it seems they are even shattering the peace of the countryside.

Any modifications to exhausts should be illegal! Let's get some sensibility back into the law and take these noisemakers off the road and crush their cars!:annoyed:

655685 2008-04-03 20:33:00 Possession of these noise amplifiers for the purposes of supply could well involve a treatment involving a couple of bricks too. Hammer the traffickers without mercy. R2x1 (4628)
