657719 2008-04-10 06:11:00 Hi

Friend is distraught as his daughter took a phone call from someone claiming he had won a laptop. She provided email details and they said they would be in contact that day - week later, still waiting. He had filled in some sort of competition at a store a while ago to go into draw to win laptop so of course he would love to have won a laptop. I reckon it is just data gathering to spam or call to sell their product.

Years ago I remember a door knocker coming around trying to sell me this product and I am sure I recall a Fair Go story on them as well.

Sceptical me told him it was probably a scam and they would probably want him to sign up to some sort of programme to spend $$$ before he would get a "free" laptop. Of course I would love to be proved wrong and hope that a free - no strings attached - laptop was on offer but I dont know who these people are.

Any one know heard of this crowd?

edit: Just found out that they go by name of "Learning Experts"

657720 2008-04-10 06:19:00 I remember the learning company, I used to go and fill in their forms ages ago (maybe 8 or 9 years ago). I remember they always stationed outside the Warehouse and sometimes in places in malls. They would say fill in the form and you can win free internet for a year at the time, I got a call from them once, but as I remember it, they were trying to sign me up to some service so I declined.

Why not let your friend know she can try contacting The Learning Company directly if she wants, their details are on their site, www.thelearning.co.nz .

Hopefully this time its a genuine win :Optimistic smile

I found that website as well but dont think that it is the same company (could be wrong) as they seem to be an industry safety company.

I think your description sounds correct for the learning company. I did edit OP as daughter recalls name as learning experts. I told him that if it was genuine you would have heard from them again as any reputable company would not rely on a young girl to take on such a message without follow up.

Cheers

My name is Peter Mitchell. Managing Director of The Learning Company Ltd. We are a consulting and training company based in Hamilton. We have never resorted to hanging around outside The Warehouse to make false or spurious offers. Let me know if you have any contact details for this outfit.

657723 2008-10-23 05:07:00 What a coincidence! A junior member, with his first post, just happened to join and be nosing around half an hour after Sam's first post on this thread. And he's managing director of a certain Learning Company. What made him join F1 at this particular moment?
:spam????? Surely we are not all that gullible?

I have no problem with Peter Mitchell making that post as it is his company that is being mentioned in a negative manner.

Rather than post such comments, you should report the post and let the Mods decide.

So it was just a happy coincidence? Wonder how he sniffed it out.:illogical

And what makes anyone think that mentioning a company in a negative manner is not the same as mentioning a company in a positive manner? As long as the company name is being mentioned is what it's all about. Not only that - in this case it's free advertising and that's the best kind!

Don't you remember the Hollywood saying that, "Any publicity is good publicity."?
