798042 2009-08-04 10:30:00 Hello members
I have been using Mozy backup-free for some time now.At the moment I'm thinking of doing more data backup online as I do not have to maintain drives and all what comes with it.
Is there an NZ site that has comparable pricing to this (mozy.com) site. The speed would possibly be better as well.
Any good ideas out there?
Thanks

798043 2009-08-04 12:03:00 I use Datalock to backup our data.
Works really well and is easy to use.
Costs are a bit more than Mozy though, which I assume are in $US??
We pay $20 plus $1/GB per month.

798044 2009-08-04 12:17:00 Personally I would not trust any online backup site with my data even for free.

Why not?

Companies come and go like flies in summer.

What is the said company going to do with my data?

A dual layer DVD will hold over eight gigabytes of data and can be stored elsewhere other than at my home. An external drive can hold a terabyte or more of data. How long does it take to upload say 500 Gigs to an online site? In the event of a hard drive disaster you would, at your end, have to install the O/S and drivers to access the online backup.

I do have several other reasons with which I will not bore you and other members at this time.

Yeah, that's considerable more than Mozy. As I said I have been using Mozy for approx.a couple of years without any problems. and the file restore functioned as needed without any problems.

One difference in favour for online back-up is; I do not need any other drives going, and so far all USB enclosed drives(pleiades) make some noise and vibration. And I have no maintenance.
Maybe there are quieter drives available?

Datalock's software encrypts and compresses your data before doing the backup online to their servers in Auckland and Wellington.
They use 256bit AES encryption which you set the password for so no one else can see your data without the password.
You don't have to upload 500GB of data either, you can send your first full backup to them on an external HDD and they upload it to their servers.
Then any backups you do from then on you are only backing up any data that has changed.
Our nightly backup is usually around 10-15MB.

I'll check their website.
