| 797128 | 2009-08-01 11:41:00 | I have a friend who wants me to fix her laptop. It only boots in safe mode apparently. Are there a common set of steps I can try to take to get it booting properly? |

See i it boots into safe mode / networking. If it does (and its on the net), get HJT and post a log. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 797130 | 2009-08-01 12:41:00 | Do you mean it always boots into safe mode when starting ? If So have a read of this (windowsxp.mvps.org) If it wont start Normally, but will only start in safe mode, that usually means these a driver or other software corruption. If this is the case you need to get it to blue screen and display the error message - start in safe mode and do this -- Right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab, Settings button (Starup and Recovery), uncheck Automatically Restart. next time it boots it will blue screen and there will be an error message - post back the complete message. May be something like ( Example only) IRQ not equal to -- 0x0000007f |
