| 656690 | 2008-04-08 02:20:00 | Speedtest is a piss poor way to measure your true internet speed. If ANY one of the hops is running slow you will show a poor result, hops may differ with ISP. Add to this it is single source testing and seems to struggle "most" of the time over 7MB ish. I can get 10MB "actual" download speeds multi source torrenting or known fast single source any time of the day, but Speedtest will often show considerably less for the reason stated about. Speedtest is worthless, looks pretty but not accurate. As for the topic, Telstras fibre/cable residential network is the fastest network in NZ (especially since going 25Mb soon), even considering ADSL2 due to its insane drop off including with cabnitisation. Telstra's DSL is also reportedly very good. |

| 656692 | 2008-04-09 09:24:00 | why is this poll multi-choice? Because it was setup by a 10 year old. They also missed many major ISPs. |

| 656697 | 2008-05-04 13:21:00 | Used to get 1MB/sec (8mbps) all the time on Telstra Cable. Half the time it crawls like dial-up now, though they are apparently improving the network right now, and are crediting us $20/month in the meantime. I'd still rate them as the fastest, giving them the benefit of the doubt that this current level of service is a temporary thing... |

| 656698 | 2008-08-03 05:55:00 | What the hell... Ihug is a failure of a provider. My high school uses that and it's damn slow. I don't see any special sort of "fastest" speeds in any providers here -- except one.. If you want fast as Broadband which is the fastest until TelstraClear brings along this new 1GB per second thing go for: Telecom Broadband Now, there are a variety of plans there at the website but the ones that are NZ's fastest (close enough) are the following: Go Express : $49.95 | 3GB | Down: 7600Kbps (max) Upload: 612Kbps (max) Pro : $79.95 | 15GB | Down: 7600Kbps (max) Upload: 768Kbps (max) Pro Advanced : $99.95 | 30GB | Down: 7600Kbps (max) Upload: 768 Kbps (max) Pro Ultimate : $149.95 | 50GB | Down: 7600Kbps (max) | Upload: 768Kbps (max) Trust me, I'm on "Pro", but even though the price is so damn expensive which is why Telecom isn't as great as it should be, the speeds will NOT let you down. Only go for one of four plans mentioned otherwise YES - Go for another ISP like Orcon or your wasting money. |
