Delivery is pretty expensive, especiallyt compared to the product price, which have come down a lot. I think farmers also charge $50 but they don't do the free install. Noel Leemings isn't bad at installing stuff on site, they will even setup the cabinet, which can take some time for them to do.

657194 2008-04-09 04:24:00 No No No.
Read my post again. They chucked in a free 3 lead Component video cable which had the red, blue and green leads. They connected it up useing the ordinary yellow video rca connection. Can't remember which cables were in which sockets but say the red one was in the yellow socket and the green one in the left audio socket and the blue one in the right audio socket.
:)

i read the post right the first time.

nothing wrong as such with that. most cheap cables are no different except for the colours.

the odds are the cable came free with DVD or TV and the guy simply did the best with what he had to work with. its quite common for dvd etc not to come with all the leads.
you need to remember that in other countries the power leads and rca lead HAVE to be purchased separately. they do not supply ANY leads with the products. so thank your lucky stars you get given the basics.

i've had to do it many times myself because people never bought the right leads. actually i had that with neighbours new tv not long back. they wondered why they had no sound on the dvd ! component leads where free with DVD but they didn't supply audio rca leads.

after you fixed it did you check to see if it would play DVD ok including the sound ??

ideally the installer should have carried all the proper leads and sold them the ones they needed. however service is considered an expense so they spend as little as possible on service side. from experience customers are not prepared to spend $$ on service themselves, hence the decline in quality in the various service industries these days (and i've been on the receiving end of it myself, dealing with micky mouse dealership mechanics :( )

657195 2008-04-09 04:55:00 Slightly of the topic but its always annoyed me that they charge to deliver. Praps everyone should say well I'll get it somewhere else if its not delivered free. After all they do want to sell it dont they. Clod (7853)

no. most shops do "cash and carry" as per standard. if its a major buy ($10,000 worth) they may do it free but that will depend on how far away the customer is and how much profit they are set to make from the deal.
i know one shop that IF they sold a certain big fridge they would have made a whole $7 to pay the bills with. somehow i don't think you will get free install with that.

Ah, a boycott . Might sound reasonable to you but as I see it, that doesn't really make much sense . The goods are not a burden, the stores buy these goods and sell them for a profit . Retailers do not one day just turn up at the store and all these random goods are there and if they don't sell them by the end of the month they will become bankrupt . Anyways, I think some places like Mitre 10 offer free delivery which is really cool but most other places like Harvey Normans, Noel Leeming, Dick Smith and the like have to source this from others, or atleast a 'delivery center' branch of their company - they pay the money to this center, that branch that sells this does not make profit . . As you might know, petrol costs money and so does manual labour . That $50 to have a 32/40" tv delivered/unpackaged does seem pretty pricey to me and I know I'd just organise to take it home, that way I'll have the goods on the same day too . If however I need some whiteware delivered or multiple goods, this $50 fee seems very small, since that does cover delivery of everything on the invoice (I'm yet to come across a retailer that tells me otherwise) .

A week and a half ago my brother bought a 40" Sony LCD TV, the same model I bought at the beginning of Feb . from them . My brother not being very technical paid NL the $50 to go out to his place and connect it all up to his stereo etc . NL even chucked in a component video cable to be able to connect his DVD which had component connections to the TV . Anyway the guy didn't connect it properly . I had to go out and set it up after Noel Lemmings had been there . The component video cable, instead of connecting to the component video sockets he had connected it to the ordinary video socket and useing the other 2 cables for the left and right audio channels .
What a moron .
:)

I think the fault here is of the sales guy for not informing your brother that besides from this component video cable he will also need something to set up his audio, either that or the sales guy just assumed your brother had already some things which is also not good . Also he should have explained the difference between a delivery and a full installation/tune-in .

Maybe you didn't check your brothers invoice though Trev? $50 sounds like a delivery charge to me, and it should state so on that receipt . Last I remember, most retailers charge something ridiculous like $130 for installation/tune-in services .

Personally, I don't really see much point in opening up a thread about it when you could probably have just solved it with a quick call to your store . You have proven that random delivery guys are not expert television installers . In this case, the guy done nothing wrong, he delivered the goods, unpackaged, probably helped get it to the right place and even done his 'patchy' wiring job (who knows, maybe he was just colour blind :banana ) with what was available - again, the guys that are sent out are not installers so its not really reasonable to expect them to have cables with them that they can sell you unless you request this service/have been promised it at the counter .

Best way I see you getting anything out of this is to contact that same sales guy/girl that sold your bro the tv (maybe get your bro to do it) and politely let them know that he was only given the component video cable . As long as the sales person knows you're not too happy with this and realises his mistake, if he is worth his salt, he should offer you a solution on the spot . You might be able to expect a 100% free audio cable of the pudney gold range, or at least a decent discount off one if you were to get it, always depends on the individuals involved though .

Good luck Trev, hope you guys enjoy your Sony TV's, we are still waiting till the 40X series become much cheaper, but for that, we could be waiting a long time >_< As it is, I always enjoy the picture I get from my Sony CRT much more than all those I see at work all day, only complaint I can think of is that it's only 28"!

Good luck with that. No shop retailer delivers for free these days, unless it is built into the price. Margins are so low, and fuel and labour costs are so high.

Not after anything . Just making a comment on someones sloppy service, when told they would deliver and setup TV etc .
