Before windows boots. www.bootdisk.com Windows 2000 and higher do NOT load on top of any form of MS-DOS, they are a complete operating system not simply a GUI. The closest you will get without an actual DOS boot disk is Safe Mode with Command Prompt as multiple people have said. Though, you haven't specified which version of Windows you are using, perhaps 3.11 for Workgroups, in which case it DOES run on top of DOS. |

Running command.com [not cmd.exe] from within XP creates a MS-DOS virtual machine, and it gives you a window headed MS-DOS Prompt, and underneath it says Microsoft (R) Windows DOS. So go and argue it out with MS. "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it is virtually MS-DOS.:clap Jack wanted to get an MS-DOS prompt, this is one way to do it, now whether Vista or Win 7 have a command.com with autoexec.nt and config.nt I wouldn't know, but it would be worth looking into if he has legacy/old MS-DOS programs to run. |
