657219 2008-04-09 01:57:00 Has anyone else noticed that the Zinwell DTT STB doesnt actually output Dolby Digital sound or have the option to select it within the audio setup (but it says you can, in the manual), despite the fact it's written on the front of the box?
Is this a 'feature' thats yet to be 'enabled', or are we being ripped off/taken for a ride here.
This is one of the main reasons I bought the box, I feel aggrieved :angry:badpc::eek:.

657220 2008-04-09 02:03:00 Have you contacted Freeview about this?

I installed one yesterday for a client but didn't actually notice what the audio was doing. Have to go back at some stage so will check.

657221 2008-04-09 06:38:00 What kind of audio outputs does it have, and which one are you using + with what? Deathwish (143)
657222 2008-04-09 10:01:00 All of the freeview satellite decoders seem tinny to me. The sound that the DSE ones pt out is so full of screech and hiss that connecting it to an amplifier makes as much sense as amplifying the Eketahuna brass band and country singing league.

I'm waiting for someone to come out with a decent one, but I fear that may never happen.

657223 2008-04-09 10:12:00 This is from the manual (sorry about the quality), showing the front and rear of the box; as you can see, Dolby Digital is writ large on the front; the rear view shows #6 as being for connection to a Dolby Digital decoder (i.e. a home theatre system)

This is the Audio menu item under setup (from the manual), in which it says Dolby Digital can be selected, it cannot be selected as the option is not available (no alternate choice is supplied); what I'm asking is, will this be available sometime (via firmware update) or am I/we being ripped off/hoodwinked?!

I'll give Freeviewnz a ring tomorrow :stare:

I've hooked it up through the optical output and the signal is perfect (no noise at all), have you connected via analogue RCAs?

Ya, at a clients house.

657227 2008-04-09 11:05:00 A digital signal will be superior to an analogue one as the signal will have rejected extra noise through error correction when generated/encoded, and when processed/decoded, so is preferable over analogue if you have the option; if not, not much you can do apart from using short and well-sheilded cables routed away from any digital signals (causing your screech and hiss?) if poss. feersumendjinn (64)

None of the channels on the Freeview satellite service broadcast a Dolby Digital audio track.

They might enable it, if a channel wishes to use it.

That can be done with an over the air software update to the box.
