659818 2008-04-17 22:15:00 Yes. wmoore (6009)
659819 2008-04-17 22:36:00 Yep.

Component works fine....

Bear this (consumerist.com)article in mind when buying cables. The $20 Pudney cable is just as good as the $100 monster one. :groan:

659820 2008-04-17 22:52:00 It depends if the HD video has HDCP or not.
HDCP can only be viewed with HDMI on a HDCP compatible TV/Monitor.
If you try to view HDCP video over component it will be downscaled to standard resolution.

659821 2008-04-18 00:52:00 so as long as the tv is Hd capable, but without hdmi input, it can still watch HD? WestMclaren2004 (7303)
659822 2008-04-18 01:26:00 As Cyabro just said, if the HD content is protected, you need HDMI cable, component will downscale. SolMiester (139)
659823 2008-04-18 08:04:00 Yup, depends entirely on the source. It even matters when it's coming out of your Win Vista computer! If the content is protected (eg. a BD or HD-DVD movie) then when using anything other than HDMI, the content will be playable at about max of 720p I believe. Component is capable of 'full hd' material, but I don't see why you would bother if you can use HDMI. Generally you'll have to spend more on your component cable to get as good a picture as you can get with a cheap HDMI cable. There is also the added convenience of it being only a single relatively thin cable (though you are a little restricted on how much you can bend it without causing damage/disturbance in your signal) which carries both your HD Video AND Audio. 659824 2008-04-18 14:22:00 If we talking about Freeview HD?

The Component output on the Zinwell 620 is limited to Standard definition. To watch 720p or 1080i you need to use the HDMI connection.

You can use 720p and 1080i over component if you are willing to risk loading a firmware designed for the Hong Kong marketplace.

www.dtvforum.co.nz has a thread about it.
