659697 2008-04-17 07:24:00 So we've been having a few issues with our ADSL connection dropping frequently and taking its time to reconnect since we joined Orcon .

Here's the email communication I had with them trying to get the issue sorted:

Thank you for your email regarding the LLU disconnection that you are encountering .

At the moment we do have a few customers that are encountering issues with the new plans . I do apologise that you are one of these customers . We currently have Technicians form Australia that have come over to assist us in resolving this for you .

I have looked on your accoutn and I can see that the disconnections have only been 1 or 2 in the last couple of days . This is indicating that the connection is becoming more stable . Please let me know if these numbers start to get high again and we will put a piece of software called 'Interleaving' on the line .

What we are doing for customers such as yourself, that are encountering issues is giving them the base fee of their plan for this month for free . This means that the only costs that you may have on this months Invoice is the Tolls calls, and overusage if applicable .

Yes it has only disconnected once today, which is a lot better than what it has been . As far as I'm aware interleaving is currently switched on for our line? My router provides the following information: "DSL Path Mode: Interleaved" . I didn't request for interleaving to be turned off on our connection as we don't do much internet gaming, so don't really need the reduction in latency .
I did read that the SNR margin that is allocated to us (6dB) is lower than that allocated by other ISPs, and this is what may be causing the disconnections?

I have looked into the Interleaving and currently our New Plans do have Interleaving automatically turned on, as most people don't require it to be turned on . I would be more than happy to activate this at any stage for you, please let me know .

Hmm sorry you've lost me a bit here . As far as I'm aware, and from what my router is reporting, interleaving is currently turned on on our connection, and is done so by default . Your response seems to contradict itself a bit? Having interleaving switched will increase both the latency of the line, and the stability . As we don't really have a need for lower latency than we have, we should have interleaving turned on . So if it isn't currently switched on, yes, please activate it for us .

Thank you for your emailing us to get the Interleaving turned on .

I have now put the Interleaving on the Broadband Line, it can take upto 3 days to be activated . I know it is not the ideal for you, but if you can monitor your connection for me, and by Monday if it still disconnecting, please let me know and I will personally submit a fault ticket to the Technicians to test the lines to see what is happening .

And . . . . . we now have interleaving turned OFF!! >_< >_<

659700 2008-04-17 09:03:00 So they say your interleaving is off and your requesting it to be turned on? Ninjabear (2948)
659701 2008-04-17 09:07:00 So it was turned off.You want it to be turned on but your comment say its been switched off.??

659702 2008-04-17 09:27:00 lol that is so random, there is misunderstanding from both sides. Deathwish (143)
659703 2008-04-17 09:29:00 Looks to me like the person at orcon wasn't even reading the emails.......And had little understanding of their own systems/packages.

They have probably been moved up to middle management by now.....

Thats what you get when a good company is taken over by a SOE . Gone are the days when you email used to be answered directly by Seeby .

Have they contracted out their helpdesk to a low wage asian country yet? That seems to be the trend with many of our companies .

Rubbish.
Seeby had staff, I was one of them at one point. He did not in general sit there and reply to helpdesk emails.

They still have staff, loads more of them, you can view their names and photos on the website.
Some of them are a bit new perhaps, so bump it up higher - all the Team Leaders, Supervisors and Managers are listed with contact details on their site.

I suggest Russell, he'll sort it for you.

Absolute Rubbish, I got a reply from him once, although I am talking about way back when they first started. I note you said 'in general' which kind of contradicts yourself, but he did reply to people by email. I also never said that he never employed other people too.
