659681 2008-04-17 03:55:00 Electrical interference from household appliances can slow down broadband. British Telecom is testing a device in homes called the iPlate, which filters out interference. In a recent demonstration, BT showed that a faulty fluorescent light can cause a 3.8-megabit-per-second connection to drop to 0.7 Mbps and that the iPlate, which will cost £10, restores the connection to full speed.

Don't expect any great gains here.

The "Bell Wire" is the one that Telecom NZ removed going from 3 wire to 2 wire years ago. 2 wiring is already advised for Broadband lines.
