Now you could always buy these really expensive ones from Amazon.
tinyurl.com

Now you'll see quite a difference in pricing

659112 2008-04-15 08:31:00 I just read that! I dont know how Harvey Norman even think that they're going to sell any.

I know in NZ there isnt a lot of public awareness about HD and such but do people actually fall for "Monster" and buy them?

HDMI is a digital signal, use the cheepest cable you can get.

to pay that price is dumb.
to ask that price is crime.

The reason they are so pricey is because Monster are a high end audio/video
cable manufactuer.

This is a more reasonable price.

659115 2008-04-15 09:29:00 yeah what the hell, those prices are mad. for very short distances like 1 ~3 metres especially, you can use pretty much cheap any brand hdmi cable and be fine as long as the cable itself meets certain hdmi specifications (i think there are guidelines which can be found somewhere on the net). You will however find advantages of monster cables over slightly longer distances if you're using it via some high bandwidth devices (a bluray movie actually playing at full res (on a 2 mp screen) ) etc. These same advantages can be found in the Panasonic/Phillips/Pudney Gold ranges that you'll see at various retail stores for a fraction of the cost. I have no experience with DSE cables, so can't comment there, except I know they are also made to HDMI spec.

Monster are best you can get in cables, and so they have higher prices than usual, but ofcourse theres tons of profit margins involved there too for the sales guys! Probably for 99% of NZ, even your trademe cables should suffice, but I wouldn't ever reccommend going that direction (nor any Warehouse cables - if they exist :P) . If you must go cheap, go get some DSE branded stuff.

And yet, when they compared them together with coat hanger wire, nobody could tell the difference (consumerist.com)

Haha, I just knew someone would mention this. Ofcourse it's irrelevant in this case. I wonder if anyone has tried to do the same with digital video? I'm sure you would see the differences there! Very good test none-the less.
