658316 2008-04-13 02:31:00 Fuji is a good camera. I use a Canon 30D SLR.
Also look at the Panasonic Lumix Models they get good reviews normally.
D-Photo magazine does reviews on new products each month also

658317 2008-04-13 02:38:00 I am rather taken by Fuji,I have a S5600 at the moment and very pleased with it,but a new one calls.
Panasonic have Zeiss lens which is nice.

658318 2008-04-13 03:04:00 The specs say that it doesn't have image stabilisation - that would make the effective use of the larger zoom almost much useless (unless you use a tripod).

I have the Sony DSC h7 with 15x zoom and Carl Zeiss lens which I rate pretty highly. Canon equivalent is good also.

658319 2008-04-13 03:36:00 If you're a semi-pro photographer, I guess it's pretty sweet .

I am not a pro, but my Kodak with 7 . 1 MP,

2- or 3- shot Panorama at 7 . 1 MP with internal pix stitching,
5X optical - 3X digital zoom,
Burst mode (12 shots), w- or w/o- flash,
Timer-delay up to 2 minutes and time-lapse mode up to 12 hours,
Peep and screen viewer,
Digital range-finder in feet/inches or mm/m,
4-Languages,
Non-proprietary AA's, w/ in-camera recharge from USB or 12vdc,
Red-Eye setting pre-flash,
On-screen editing, zoom and focus after the shot,
ISO to 1200,
Pix stabilization w/anti-blur and picture repair,
Orientation sensor,
Movie-Mode @30FPS with stereo pick-up condenser mikes,
Black-Matrix® devoted pixels for true black color (a KODAK exclusive),
Programmable and manually-adjustable ISO and MP modes,
13 Pre-programmed typical ISO-Special settings,
Slo-Mo,
Macro/micro focus ranging from infinite to 2 . 1 inches, XD/SD/SDHC/SD-Micro card slot,
USB direct dump and hot shoe,
External power supply with up to 12 hours of video battery life,
200 hours of full saturation and flash life or standby time on one recharge . . . . . not counting internal batteries (AAs again) .

. . . makes that Fuji look like a loser . The Fuji looks impressive though . Hopefully it sells for less than $200 . 00NZD or I'd be looking for something in about the same category as you want in a KODAK . The Fuji hasn't got the features that I need, as I am not pro, but I think Fuji and Nikon and Canons are all over priced and have fewer features .

Since it looks like you appreciate the feel of an SLR and if you want to hearken back to silver oxides and flashbulbs, I sell you my old Yashika-D 35MM for nostalgia and forget all about DSLRs all together .

I also have a Rollie Press Model that needs wheels and a trailer hitch to carry it around . It has a dual hot-shoe and flash attachment for P5 bulbs . Cheap .

Consider the DSLR price too . My KODAK was $129 . 00USD last year and just went down a few bucks as last year's model . :banana

For real punishment, I can get out my Poloroid/Hemorrhoid-Model Land Camera . I think I can make a charcoal sketch with more resolution that it ever had .

Picture Stabilisation Mode: Picture Stabilisation uses the increased sensitivity of the FinePix S1000fd and high-speed shutter settings to reduce blur caused by hand-shake or subject movement . It allows the camera to automatically choose the correct light sensitivity and optimal shutter speed to produce clear, blur-free images

Sure doesn't look like a loser to me .

My father - who was a pro, liked these .
Although he has now bought a Canon - mainly so he can have various lenses and a flash gun, so he can do all sorts of pro type things with it .

If you look at specs as posted by PC you will note stabiliser feature.
