798466 2009-08-05 10:41:00 Hey guy's.

I have recently formated my second HDD and after doing so rebooted upon the computer starting up I recived the bood disk not found insert system disk and press enter.

So I tryed startup repair to no avail, then opened up cmd and did
bootrec /fixmbr "The operation completed successfully" then
bootrec /fixboot "element not found"

now I take this is not a good thing, any help?
System vista.

798467 2009-08-05 10:47:00 You sure you formatted the right drive? It seems like the system was and is trying to boot from that hard drive.

If you're sure all the system files etc are on the 1st HDD, go into the BIOS and check the boot priority.

Let us know how you go. Good luck :)

798468 2009-08-05 10:54:00 yea the bios is set to cd > hdd > floppy
cd drive is empty and hdd order is now main > secondary (one I formatted)

Note the second hdd did have win7 on it.
am re trying the bootrec again.

798470 2009-08-05 11:02:00 Try setting the partition as active using the DiskPart utility in command prompt from the Vista DVD

CMD>Diskpart>list disk>select disk X>list partition>select partition X>set active

Or something along those lines, don't quite remember. Think help should bring up all available commands

Oh, and BTW once thats done try your bootrec commands again.

798472 2009-08-05 11:29:00 So did you have a dual boot setup?

If you boot from a windows CD, with only the 1st hdd in there, is the windows installation picked up? Or does it say that there is no OS currently installed.

798473 2009-08-05 11:42:00 Have you tried doing a chkdsk C: /r on it? Blam (54)
