798419 2009-08-05 09:34:00 Hi

I've lost the bottom quarter of off the bottom of my LCD monitor. I believe a cat sprayed onto it and SWMBO cleaned it up when I wasn't around. The problem first appeared 2 days ago as a couple of grey semi-circles in the bottom left corner of the screen (about the size of an old 50c piece). The grey area has since grown over the last 24 hours to cover the entire bottom left corner plus the entire bottom 1/4 of the screen has fuzzy horizontal lines. Any suggestions? Maybe the hot water cupboard?

Cheers, Andrew

798421 2009-08-05 12:02:00 I doubt just drying it out will help, since whatever it was will probably leave residue

If it's just on the outside then it should be easy enough to get off but if it's inside you couldn't do much unless you take the panel apart and clean it, probably.

If you're keen to try, search google for "replacing LCD backlight" to find out what this kind of operation would involve. It's not easy but if you're good with that sort of thing it shouldn't be too hard either.

798422 2009-08-05 12:11:00 I'm told water was used to clean off the spray but I suspect some liquid dripped down the front of the monitor and now sits between the panes of glass - because I can almost massage the grey area to the side of the screen (gently of course). I'm kinda thinking it's poked.....not sure if the hot water cupboard or de-humidifier will work given the liquid is between the panes of glass. If after a week the hwc has done nothing, then I probably have no choice but to take it apart and have a go myself.....

Cheers

798423 2009-08-05 13:42:00 If you do decide to take the LCD apart, keeping it clean is fun... Agent_24 (57)
