658683 2008-04-15 05:19:00 From what I have heard it is over 40% owned by mum and dad investors .

So we can stop blaming "Telecom" for the state of our rubbish broadband and expensive cellphone calls and blame ourselves .

Anyway I already suggested Orcon . Not Telecom, Not Telstra .
Orcon bundle phone and flat rate calling . Don't have to have broadband as well, that can go through Xnet if preferred .

They don't know how to use a computer .. so .....

But I think even if you do, you don't want to be stuck in front of a computer all the time. I am not sure how much it cost to call someone on the computer (data wise) vs say 4c a minute with the phonecards.... Oh .. I see you can get a HKG number - out of interest does cost any money? Before I thought of Skype to my knowledge, Skype account cost like 4c a minute normally and that sorta broke even with the phonecards but it has not counted the extra internet traffic one need to fund.

658685 2008-04-15 05:23:00 It's australia that vodafone is considering out of the market

Dont know where you got tesltra or vodphone from?

Perhaps a typo?Vodafone and telstra?

Yeah, I saw that report. IDC claimed Vodafone wasn't investing in Australia, and that was a sure sign they were pulling out. The next day Vodafone Aus announced it was building a new network.

So no, no pull out. I'll find the link and post it.

Cheers

Yes, or the people we vote in to lead us . eg . The government for not investing in our infrastructure sooner .

I think you are referring to a different story, as I remember reading that one too . The one I am referring to is one written by the National Business Review, and I think it was written late last year . Below are the stories I am referring to . The first one refers to Vodafone, and the second Telstra

Vodafone plans to sell its Australia and NZ Business . (NEW ZEALAND)

Article Excerpt
Cellphone company Vodafone Group plans to sell its Australian and New Zealand businesses, according to a business weekly . The National Business Review said that the biggest cellphone operator in New Zealand is intending to exit the country's market due to the strict regulatory environment . Vodafone is also looking to . . .

Will Telstra abandon NZ?

Article Excerpt:
An Australian analyst predicts telecommunications company TelstraClear may be downsized or put up for sale by its parent .
Paul Budde says now that the Government's new regulatory regime is in place, there is a question over TelstraClear's place in the new environment .
TelstraClear spokesman Chris Mirams, however, rejected Mr Budde's view .
Mr Budde said it had ceased competing aggressively and seemed content to take advantage of Telecom's wholesale services to cater to its corporate and trans-Tasman business customers .
"It just doesn't make any sense for Telstra [TelstraClear's Australian parent] to hang on to its marginal operation in New Zealand," Mr Budde said .
Telstra had shown little desire to invest in New Zealand beyond its core business client base - "and for this, you don't need the current organisation", he said . . . . . . .

I blame myself for my own choices and no other person or company or government for that matter.

Personally I vote and I do this with voting papers and/or vote with my wallet and the contents therein.

Also some people do not have very much of a choice regarding services depending on where they are located.

The HK2BN software provided by Hong Kong broadband costs $900Hk I think for a two year subscription.Within that time you can make any calls to Hk for for free and anyone can call you and it'll be treated as a local number.
The calls to mobile are free as well so you can call to and him from anytime during the day.

My dad payed for the subscription.lol

I find Skype really expensive.I think it was more like 10c per minute to call a Hk number.

VFX is however a better alternative method than Skype

With the Hk2Bn software you can talk as long as you like and you don't get complaints where people say they have been called by the ISP that they talk too much..lol..This was something that reminded me of Vodafone Bestmate

$200NZ for about two years.I think you might find it expensive but good for people who talk alot and have friends overseas you wanna talk to..

They wanted me to use vodafone broadband.lol..I said I wasn't interested but I think xnet is much cheaper for me.They tell you the price like $40 but they don't tell you how much data you get:)

hehe..nice way of luring people into their company

658691 2008-04-15 08:24:00 Correction with Telstra.
I think with Telstra, ADSL won't work on it. So you will be looking at the Telstra BB plans. From a yr ago, the $50 plan with 10GB of traffic gave you the option of opting out of a landline. The cheaper ones don't. I am not sure, if Naked ADSL applies to Naked CABLE ....

But for most people with ADSL, I suggest Xnet and either have a landline or don't. Up to you. You can also choose your company of registration for the landline. If you make international phonecalls some phonecards allow 4c call 24/7 to some selected countries. AFAIK, Skyp is 2c Euro or that's 4c NZD but that might be selected countries and may be restricted to landlines.

Don't be confused with Vodafone, that special one when your landline rings your cellphone will also ring. It only works at home or at a perimeter - if you go to your neighbour it may still work, ie free calls (as defined). If you are to drive to the local diary or the local supermarket the phone becomes out of that "zone" and you will be paying standard cellphone rates.

For the BB. My first question is do you need wireless? With Wifi technology you can just get a wireless router and its wireless around your house. If you are going to be using it on foot, on car, at a different premise then consider wireless. But wireless will cost more. You can compare the wireless plans from diff companies. Its like comparing, landline telephone to ta cellphone telephone. Many people won't justify ditching the landline and use their cellphone 24/7. From your supplied Vodafone link, the Pro Plan at $70 or $80 (with contract or without) for 3GB seems to be the best deal if you are continually accessing internet. If you overshoot it you pay $10 more for double ie., 3GB more (as it says). As it says again if you overshoot it the 2nd time, you will pay 50c per extra MB or $512 per extra 1GB.

You say you use about 3-4GB per month and can live without a phoneline. For wireless that is $70 or $80 and add on $10 = $80 or $90 for a total of 6GB. For non-wireless that is about up to $40 for the landline and ~$38 for Xnet. $80 but you don't have contracts and you have a phone there for local calls 24/7 and you can access phonecards for international calling. I would assume wired would be faster too. I have looked at ADSL but still locating ..
