659048 2008-04-15 11:02:00 And about time too - great idea - nz.sports.yahoo.com How are we going to stop these guys leaving the country otherwise? The big pockets overseas are too much for the NZRFU so I reckon tax breaks are the least they can expect. It might just be enough to retain our top players. Winston001 (3612)
659049 2008-04-15 11:11:00 Why not just pay them more/offer better conditions?

Better than asking the govt (i.e., taxpayer - rugby supporter or not) for mates rates I reckon.

659050 2008-04-15 11:13:00 Let them go, who cares.

If they get a tax break i'm going to burn down the IRD.

Not that they will, Its all a load of dribble.

659051 2008-04-15 11:55:00 Surely there are better people the government could give tax breaks to to keep in NZ??
Doctors, teachers etc etc

I'm sure we don't need doctors or engineers but rugby players? No, they're like God's gift to NZ.

I agree. However I would want the same tax breaks too. I, like a lot of young professionals such as doctors, architects etc, are off overseas where we can earn a lot more. What is being done to stop us leaving, absolutely nothing.

And where did they come in the world cup again? The peson who suggested it, didn't actually research the facts before teh made the comment. They stated that in Ireland they do this, however the tax rate for all people in ireland is a lot less than in NZ. Also do we want to be copying irelands tax rules?
