| 658409 | 2008-04-13 11:26:00 | While looking through Digg, I found a link to this article (www.dailymail.co.uk) on China and how it's becoming increasingly dominant, and very fast. What are your thoughts? How do you think this will affect New Zealand? |

| 658413 | 2008-04-13 22:22:00 | A most interesting article. Although there have been similar articles on China's rise before, I don't think that I have read a such an alarmist item before. As far as affecting our little country, I think it must be a good thing. You don't have to agree with their policies on anything to sell them our produce. If you owned the local store, could you afford not to sell your product to everyone? Do you judge each person as they come in your door? If they beat their wife and children, do you refuse to serve them? Don't be silly! You have a living to make and if you are to feed your family then you need all the customers you can attract. If you don't sell to them, someone else will. Does that ease your conscience because you will not serve that wife beater? You know that they will go elsewhere and still be able to purchase what they need, so why would you not sell to them? Silly. New Zealand needs all the customers we can attract. We can't afford to turn down that sort of money, so read the article and realise that we need to be part of that - we need to sell our milk and cheese to these people. We need the money and cannot afford to pick and choose our customers. Footnote: The article mentioned Britain's colonisation of the world. Read some of the stories concerning Britain's treatment of some of the people they "conquered" and then, bearing that in mind, see if you can justify righteous indignation towards China. Britain's record in India, for example, was very horrific. |

| 658415 | 2008-04-14 00:58:00 | I do find the china consuming alot of resources but then what can you do to stop it? Why would you want to stop it? We consume far more resources per person than the average Chinese, are you suggesting its ok for us to be rich but not them? The difference of course thee is 1.3 billion of them and 4 million of us. The West has been creating this problem for decades with allowing globalisation unchecked. Capatilism dictates economys must always expand to flurrish which of course goes against the reality the world has very real limited resources. We allow huge corporations to dictate policy especially in the States. Our own corporation don't give a rats ass about there own people as long as they can exploit the 3rd world for profits. Its all tied into the problem. Now its coming back to bite us in the ass, big surprise! |

| 658418 | 2008-04-14 09:03:00 | Goldman Sachs, the bank, recently predicted that by 2050, China and India would have overtaken the U.S. to be the world's first and second biggest economies. I think this date is VERY optimistic (from an American point-of-view) considering the current size of the US deficit and the apparent unwillingness of any presidential candidate to do anything about it. |
