661080 2008-04-22 01:52:00 Hi Folks, following on from Peter Griffins NZ Herald blog about the need for the sci-fi channel (www.scifi.com) in NZ I've started up a petition lobbying for the Sci-Fi channel www.gopetition.com

There's been a huge amount of support so far but more signatures are needed! Please do your bit for geek-kind and forward this link onto all friends, family and acquaintences!!!

661083 2008-04-22 07:13:00 The only Sci-Fi themed channel you might ever see from Sky will simply have the "Sci fi" brand name and will be a major disappointment. Just as bad as the version Foxtel created for their customers.

Don't expect it to be anything near to the U.S version!

661085 2008-04-22 13:31:00 Lets get Comedy Central first, then we can discuss the Sci-Fi channel though it does have some bloody good shows. beeswax34 (63)

661087 2008-04-23 10:43:00 Just a quick update - the petition has passed the 500 signature mark! :thanks

Here's a press release I've sent out to key media outlets, feel free to pass it onto friends, family, forums and fellow sci-fi fandom!

Sci-Fi petition kicks off, attracting hundreds of signatures in just 24 hours

The recent coverage by Peter Griffin in the NZ Herald (blogs.nzherald.co.nz) on NZ's near complete lack of science fiction coverage motivated me to create an online petition to lobby the TV networks to bring the sci-fi channel (www.scifi.com) to New Zealand.

Peter raises a lot of valid points. Sci-fi is all about the human condition. Much sci-fi make a lot of valid and thought provoking comments about society.

TV3's change of heart with Underbelly, resulting from a concerted campaign shows what role fan power can play in steering the programming schedule.

In the 24 hours that the petition (www.gopetition.com) has been running it has already received hundreds of signatures from across New Zealand, with many signatories leaving thought provoking comments.
