Is there a product that I can sweep in and dampen to set Not the best of ideas..but if you can chip out all the old mortar and get it really clean, you can just mix a little sand and Portland about 30:70 and work it in with a small broom..then just sprinkle it with water...gently! If the area being repaired does NOT get wet from rain or the elements, then you should mix some white emulsion glue with the powder..although it then becomes a paste and you will need to work the slimy mixture into the cracks and use a damp/wet sponge to remove the excess on the tops of the bricks. You might be able to find a dry or powdered product made just for adhering old cement to new..but it's not something a pro would do. That is called a (very) "cold joint" and is likely to fail where the old meets the new. Since I am assuming your bricks are not structural and supporting a house of wall..if they are just a walkway or so, then it'll likely be OK. I once set a group of flagstone that way...sand for a base, set the stones in place and put the dry powder mix on them, using a soft broom to work the cement/sand into the spaces in between. Watered it gently and let it set up over night. It's still holding up well after about 10 years..and an occasional car/truck gets parked on it. |
