661669 2008-05-07 09:44:00 rob is a pro one man band :D Deathwish (143)
661670 2008-05-07 09:56:00 Mr Deathwish, what software did you use on your most recent video? Metla (12)
661671 2008-05-07 09:58:00 I watched your you tube stuff too Deathwish, best thing I can say is practise every moment you can, while watching TV, when you got 5 mins spare etc... But if you have an acoustic, try playing and perfecting on that, when you hit the electric you will fly! rob_on_guitar (4196)

661673 2008-05-07 10:07:00 Yup, I was quite suprised! Good to see another! Nice axe too!
I remember when I couldnt afford an electric guitar so I used play this cruddy old acoustic, played everything from slayer to death to acdc to stevie ray vaughan on it, once I finally got my electric guitar I was really blown away how easy it was.

661675 2008-05-07 10:45:00 Mr Deathwish, what software did you use on your most recent video?

I was lazy and used Nero for everything, audio and video. It killed what little tone I already had, but as you probably saw, I had a ball with the special effects hahahaaha. I like that for a software that came free with my $50 dvd recorder it can do so much. If I were to do it again, I would try and find out a way to add the audio track separately (maybe record directly from my effects pedal too rather than cellphones microphone) without the app doing any processing of it at all.

And thanks guys for that, yeah Rob, I like to practice like mad when I can - I really am lucky I guess that I started working from a bit younger so I was able to go right to electric. I got it without my parents consent though (I wanted to play since I was really young but parents never wanted to put up with the noise) so I wasn't even allowed to practice using the amp for a good couple months till I convinced them it was about more than just making noise.

My problem (as others that started learning without a teacher might recall) is that I end up playing all sorts of random stuff (getting lost in the music and 'practicing' songs things you already know well rather than learning new) and sometimes practicing things in the wrong way and lost in that way for hours on end. Thankfully there is Youtube in this world for me to receive criticism as teachers are a little out of budget right now, though I do intend on getting one sometime so I can climb to Robs level in a matter of years rather than centuries. You are not a beginner or I'd recommend uploading some playing videos up to youtube, there are heaps of guys that spam and say 'you suck, quit life', but you would not believe how many nice people (that can actually play the instrument) send me a friendly pm with proper advice.

Recently I've really been practicing a lot of sweep picking and am gradually building up on that, using tips from friends and youtube people :P Hopefully shred one day like Paul Gilbert \m/

Think people should start learning the theories (I know so many chords and use some scales but if you ask me their names I'd go blank) from an early stage (I am slowly learning scales and such) or cruise along with technical practices until they're ready to go ahead and take the jump from guitarist to musician? After a year and a half of playing though, I've finally started to get a bit more serious, couple of my friends say it didn't begin for them till similar and they are really good now. I am teaching myself to at least identify the notes by ear aswell as when I play some notes, to be able to know the name of the note I am playing rather than just the fret number (as read on tabs).

Lmao.

yeah man, lots of fun :D make up a pc world band haha.

661676 2008-05-07 16:11:00 Its so cool to have encouragement, I pretty much lack confidence in showing other people my own music, it kinda bothers me. I like criticism though, I seem to thrive off it... Id like to make some vids to my song, but I dont have a video cam or even a web cam, another cool thing I find though about guitar is, try learning 1 riff a day. You'll freak out say after a year, of how many songs you will actually know by doing this. rob_on_guitar (4196)
661677 2008-05-07 20:14:00 Well keep the sample clips coming Rob. This small country has a surprising amount of musical talent which just needs a bit of development, and as you say, encouragement. Greg (193)
