660971 2008-04-24 09:55:00 I found that Nlite didnt like WMP 11 being slipstreamed.

I had to use Windows Media player 11 slipstreamer tool separately.

It'll SS WMP and updates. Just select the same folder as the XP one

660972 2008-04-24 10:08:00 What I have read in several places was If you didn't have IE7 installed, windows update offered it as a download on SP2, but as soon as SP3 was installed the IE7 Download disappeared---- Strange, maybe MS are getting ready for IE8 ?

Yup, that's right.

I installed a copy of XP SP3 slipstreamed with nothing else - IE7 not in WU. Only the Malicious software removal tool + a few optional updates.

660973 2008-04-24 11:25:00 Hopefully it's this release we just downloaded, and it's not the proper one and it is broken...

Hopefully the one appearing on next tuesday will work with IE7 etc...

Eh? Why wouldnt it work with IE 7? I slipstreamed this one with IE 7, it works fine.

Or do you mean will it include IE 7?

If you do, no I dont think it will include IE 7

660975 2008-04-24 12:42:00 Yeah, I meant it should come with it. Pretty damn stupid if it doesn't Agent_24 (57)
660976 2008-04-24 12:56:00 Ah ok. I think a few sites say this as well, that it wont inc IE or WMP.

Well it does look like this is RTM, if you extract the file, and look in update / eula, it says down the bottom:

EULAID:XPSP3_RTM_UPD_UNF_EN

I take it that means RTM ?

And it doesnt say its a pre-release at the start of it

It says:

SUPPLEMENTAL END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR
MICROSOFT SOFTWARE

MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 3

If you do, no I dont think it will include IE 7Theres lots of complaints from people who have used SP3 pre RTM and if you dont already have IE7 installed , it wont install.
I had that happen yesterday on a new install with only SP3 slipstreamed. The service Pack went in fine, but when trying to install IE7 as a upgrade/separate installer as you would with SP2 it spat the dummy within 1 minute.

Hmm interesting, well of course that would be a bit hard if you were doing a clean install, and you didnt slipstream IE 7 first.

By the looks of it, they changed it so it did work, without IE 7. (If you do a clean install).

I tried that too yesterday, did a straight slipstream just with SP3.

And then installed IE 7 after XP had been installed. It worked ok here tho

660980 2008-04-26 03:13:00 Well the file from the Softpedia site is definitely the RTM version.

I've just checked its MD5, with the Nero MD5 verifier, and it matches (so hasnt been tampered with), what most sites say the MD5 is.

The 544 mb file is the ISO, (Which was available for MS Technet subscribers), and includes .Net folders (so probably installs the .Net Framework files), and a few extra files.

And the standalone file 316 MB (331,805,736 bytes)
