That comment was made because its not just doctors that work long hours, and yes you are right a doctor should be "Awake" when caring for people. What about Airline Pilots - they are only allowed to fly for so many hours before "having to have a rest of so many hours" and they can have the safety of hundreds in their hands at once. Also, who's telling the self employed to work 14+ a day? They are. Customer demands do, quite simply if you refuse to work then you get no work. Its that simple, as people will go else where to someone who does work the hours people require. GONE is the 9-5 if you want to stay in business, just look at all the big places these days - open 7 days a week. Doctors should be paid good for what they do, but not hold the country to ransom. |

Yes of course...just what I'm saying, Doctors shouldnt be doing 14+ hours a day period, but if they do, they should be getting good money for it.... I'd rather the monay go to the Doctors than Labours Management Consultants that have taking over the hospitals! |

What about bus drivers? They're effectively the same thing. Sans respect and about $70k |

Sans respect and about $70k As I said before its NOT just doctors that work long hours, if they work the hours then yeah pay them for it. They know what they are in for when they decide to become a Doctor, so why complain, its not like its a trade secert. I'd rather the monay go to the Doctors than Labours Management Consultants that have taking over the hospitals! Agree  |

Generally around $25-30,000 in the first year. The fastest to increase though. By the third year of practice most will be on $60k plus. |
