It's no longer officially (www.glorylogic.com/) free but the last free version can still be found online (http:).

660325 2008-07-13 18:42:00 I stumbled across this site which may be useful.

http://www.techsupportalert.com/

Please note that I have no affiliation with that site but it does explain what certain programs actually do.

is an excellent source of info.
If you sign up you get Gizmo's
fortnightly newsletter which
reviews software of all kinds
to keep you up to date.
The last time I recommended this
site it was removed by Admin.
Maybe I gave too many details

Is VLC Player listed above? Cannot see it but I know its a favourite of PF1ers.
Plays everything, audio and video. Open source. http://www.videolan.org/

Here is another PF1 favourite that I cannot see above:

SUPER : Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer

660329 2008-07-20 20:07:00 Have used GOM player, then went to VLC player which is great but won't play some video as well as MPlayer.I place a shortcut on the desktop and drag/drop the video on it for easy access.Only trouble is Mulder keeps updating it!

660332 2008-08-12 03:20:00 Wow, I really missed the boat. I can only reccomend these:

Microsoft VirtualPC (yes, it runs Linux fine).

psxMc: converts files from PS1 games into PC formats, eg tim-jpg, str-avi, and mus/dat-wav.

ePSXe: Plays PS1 games on PC, you do need a reasonably good computer, but at high screen res's, GT2 looks better than it does on TV.

zsnes: play SNES games on PC.

Anim8or: Great 3d program, geared towards 3d animation.

Zmodeler: 3d program geared towards gamers wanting to import/export 3d files (supports Gran Turismo car formats, among many).

Lyle in Cube Sector: Absolute ripper of a game, in under 3Mb. Rescue your cat!

Schiffbruch: Another small, old game. You're shipwrecked. Get off the island.

Cain and Abel: Great for checking network security.
