660951 2008-04-24 03:09:00 How big is this download??

Some sites say its round 312mb, others (some of the MS sites), say its like 544-554mb !

Mine was 316MB. Installs on a XP Home pc properly w/o any errors.

660952 2008-04-24 03:15:00 Hmm ok, so if the network install is 500mb+ whats this one then??

If the WU site is 100 mb or so??

You dont have to wait forever for whatever to download after you get the 316mb file, do you?

Full package maybe?

Whatever it is, it works :)

I assume you mean Windows Updates? Don't think you'll need to download any updates until the next Patch Tuesday/Wednesday.

660954 2008-04-24 03:31:00 Ok then, might get it and try it on the other hdd first.

660955 2008-04-24 03:37:00 I'm downloading the 320MB one.. perhaps the other one is for multi-language support?

Or the bigger one can install from any version to SP3, the other one needs SP2 already installed?

Anyone got a link to the 500MB one? I'll download it too :D

660956 2008-04-24 03:40:00 I dont think it matters if SP1 or 2 is installed, or not.

If you slipstream it. Since it should include both anyway.

660957 2008-04-24 04:23:00 Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 Final:

So this one is really final? (i.e. no longer in RTM)

660958 2008-04-24 08:03:00 So this one is really final? (i.e. no longer in RTM) Not to sure, I just looked and it has the same KB number as RC2 AND I just finished slipstreaming SP3 from the site provided onto a new XP CD, it installed fine, no product key, keeps coming up saying 30 days to activate, if you try to do any windows updates, it wants to check to make sure its legal, then says its not genuine and promptly jumps you to the site where you are adviced to purchase XP for $171.00

SO going by that, I think I'll wait for the Official download from MS and try again, in the mean time I got a nice new coaster it seems :crying

And to add insult - IE7 Will NOT install, since its not included in the SP3, and even after adding in a product key , windows update still didn't show IE7 as a download, while all other XP SP2's did - even with the key , IE7 still spat the dummy.

if it is the " real deal' - Looks like MS F**ked up again.

660959 2008-04-24 08:08:00 For those "early adaptors" of SP3, also be aware that the address bar has been removed as a toolbar option for the taskbar. I just noticed this being mentioned in forums and apparently this wasn't the case with the beta/RC versions.

I never used it but I'm sure there's a few that do.

660960 2008-04-24 08:21:00 Just checked on that Sal - no Address from the Task Bar.

I have also just read on several other forums that IE7 and WMP had a lot of problems installing on the beta/RC versions of SP3, seems they have carried the problem along for the ride.
You can slipstream IE7 into the CD, but what a pain in the toush!! FAQ from nLite (www.nliteos.com)
How many more bugs will surface I wonder;)
