799274 2009-08-12 02:39:00 Well either way, the pic you posted you did it wrong Speedy Gonzales (78)
799275 2009-08-12 02:43:00 ??? How did I do it wrong? The only difference I can see between my pic and Wainui's is that when FAT32 didn't work, I tried FAT, and then NTFS.... johcar (6283)
799276 2009-08-12 02:44:00 Thats correct
you don't need to specify which drive in the Format instruction, because it is already selected (earlier) Once you select the drive - it stays locked into that drive for all commands unless you change drives, or tell it to change drives. Never had to reassign the drive letter once you type in Select Disk ?

Edited: just looked through the commands johcar posted all look 100% - the problem right from the start is the drive is only showing as 8MB - where it should be 8GB (List Disk)

BRB- just going to try something-----------

Okay -- Just took a 4GB USB drive, blew away the partition, unplugged,Plugged back in - run diskpart, list disk - still showed its capacity - so I would say at a guess the USB drive you have is faulty.

799277 2009-08-12 05:42:00 WARNING- Just make sure when you type in " Select Disk1" That it IS the actual USB drive - done it once without thinking / forgetting I had two drives on the PC and wiped the wrong drive --- Bugger!!

Hey ive seen that too, but as im the IT guy it was my fault, even tho i was on holiday at the time:angry

799278 2009-08-21 12:36:00 UPDATE: Took the 'faulty' drives back to GraysOnline at their request and they have refunded me in full. Nice to know that some companies will stand behind the products they sell even if they are counterfeit!

I asked whether there had been any other returns of the 8GB drives - apparently only one. I think there were about a dozen available in that auction. Lucky me, BOTH the drives I got were faulty!!!

799279 2009-08-21 12:50:00 Still dodgy.....what did they say about it being counterfeit? Blam (54)
799280 2009-08-22 02:27:00 Not a thing. I suspect they they deal in good faith with manufacturers and suppliers who want to shed excess or end-of-line stock, and in some cases, samples that have been imported but the supplier has chosen not to proceed with a bulk import order. I imagine there are some dodgy importers who take advantage of this situation...

I will be watching the GraysOnline site with interest for this stock again, but imagine GraysOnline's good name is worth more to them than a quick profit on dodgy goods.
